Hi List--This just makes me feel sick. I would rather have a horse thief in my family tree than someone who would selfishly steal records. I hope their brick walls never crumble. Marjorie, Could you please lookup in the Addison Cemetery book for Robert & Sarah Ray? They disapeared after 1860 census. Thank you, Rex Ray. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marjorie L. Rex, I'm not Marjorie, but I took a look, there isn't a RAY listed in the Addison Twsp book. The only thing close would be WRAY and that is Rachel Wray w/o BJ. I am searching for info on Sherman Moodispaugh, b= Dec. 26, 1872 in Harrison, Gallia, Ohio. He died in Mason, WV I believe. His fifth wife was my g-aunt Clara Thomas Robinson who was married to my g-uncle John Del Robinson. Since I can't find the whereabouts of John since 1910 in Gallia, I will take this road and see what I can find out. Thanks, Joyce
Debbie, I found a whole bunch of Jacksons, buried in the McGee Cemetery in Huntington, Twp, Gallia Co., Ohio.. The cemetery was read in 1979 by the Gallia Co. Historical and Genealogical Society and can be found in their publication Cemeteries of Huntington Township. Hello Ernie: I just saw where you were doing research on Frazier. My mother was a Frasher related to the Frashers buried in Frasher Hill Cemetery, Fort Gay, Wayne County, W. V. Micajah Frasher Born Dec. 25, 1763 and Died Nov. 9, 1843. He is buried in the Frasher Hill Cemetery. He is my 4 great grandfather. Thought that we might trade info. You may be right Charlie. Its a fine line, one that I would trip over very fast. I believe that our tax dollars pay to have these events recorded therefore we have the right to copy when ever and wherever we chose as long as it is for our own personal use. It is when the money grubbers get into the picture that fouls things up. I do not want to start a big discussion on Copy Right since it has been gone over and over so I will not respond to this subject again. Denise, This would certainly help in restoring the original file. Also, having another copy of everyone's family history located at the Gallia County Historical/Genealogical Society would safeguard all the hard work put into collecting data. This is a good idea since family information can be destroyed by fires and other disasters, storing family data in a second location is just smart. . We now have 5 bookshelves of family histories and would gladly purchase more bookshelves to store a copy of everyone's hard work. ok, I have run into some interesting things with my EAGLE's and I'm wondering if there are any new resources out that that might help me I have an EAGLE family that was born in Gallia Co John L EAGLE & Rachael FEE EAGLE by 1850 they had 4 children they are in Auglaize Co OH for the 1850 census which was taken the day before a relatives wedding in Auglaize County so I really don't know what they were doing up in Auglaize but, in late December of 1851 they sold their land in Auglaize Co in 1852 there was a Rachel EAGLE that married a Comfort WILLIAMS in Mercer Co, OH she died within a few years the marriage record was no help there wasn't anything in it to help determine who she was I check probate and guardianship records in Mercer and nothing there either by 1860, 3 of the children were in Gallia Co (born in 1850) John Washington EAGLE's death notice indicates he was born and rasied in Gallia Co if anyone has any ideas PLEASE e-mail me I'd really like to know what happened to John & Rachel FEE EAGLE thanks & take care, Debbie
Hello Cheryl. Just got thru reading about people stealing records. I agree with you whole heartedly. I ran into the same problem in a Lawrence County, Ky. Court House. Like you said they could have easily stepped into the next room to make a copy and left the originals for others to see. This was a few years ago before EBAY. Doris Nicholas Speck dspeck1926@aol.com
I had just the opposite happen to me. One day a couple of years ago I got an email, out of the blue, asking if I was related to Hiram Houck, which I am....he was a brother of my g.g.g.grandfather. Seems a friend of the sender had purchased Hiram's diary, with civil war stuff in it, at some antique shop and the sender was curious. I asked if the owner would be interested in selling it, but in a couple of days the sender responded that his friend collected civil war stuff and would be keeping the diary. He didn't even ask what I would be willing to pay, and it would have been more than he paid, no matter what it was, I can assure you of that. So....I never got the diary, don't know who owns it, and have not chance of ever getting it, I suppose. But.......at one time it was the property of some family member who did not value it and let it go. Reminder to all you genealogists........have arrangements made for your collections and research materials when you pass, the person you think might take care if it just might not be as interested as you ! I have a data base of 31,532 individuals that I abstracted from all the cemetery books of Gallia County (plus 2 of Lawrence County, with the exception of Gallipolis Township, which I am now working on). I have first & last names, cemetery & township, and page number. I could not find your Petty. Mary Lee Davis Marchi ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marjorie L. Debbie, I show that Henry and his family , new wife Permelia are in Auglaize county in 1850 living next to Solomon Denney. Since Rachel is a sister, according to your records , to Henry she could be lving there near him. I checked the Springfield cemetery book and didn't find them but then my book does not have an index, it is an older copy so it is possible I missed something. I was wondering if there is an an index of probate records. I'm trying to research the parentage of Jane Boyles and am suspicious that either a William Boyles or Jacob Boyles might be her father but can't find any clues. They are both living in Gallia Co. during the early 1800's. Jane was born in Ohio @ 1812-1813 and married Daniel Dulaney (Delaney) September 19, 1830. in Gallia Co. They lived in Raccoon Township through 1840 and shortly after migrated to Champaign Co., IL. I assume she was born in Gallia Co. There were quite a few Boyles getting married in Gallia Co., during the 1820-1840's but don't know if they are her siblings or not. I have a copies of the originals from the will book of Jacob Boyles about the selling of property for his estate in 1834 but there is no mention of children, etc. and his wife Sally was made administrator. Does anyone have access to an index of probate records to see if there is anything for either a Jacob Boyles or even William Boyles? Or any information is welcomed! Thanks, Sharon Hobart Ft. Worth, TX
Joanne, This is a great story! A woman did not have to be famous to be interesting. Some of the most interesting women or men for that matter sometimes are found amongst ordinary people. It sounds like this lady had a very interesting and exciting life and it would be interesting to hear more about her life in LA.
