    1. Re: [OHGALLIA-L] Wheat farms
    2. Linda Trent
    3. Hi Sharon, In the 19th century, wheat was typically grown in the east in NY, PA, VA, and OH. The most common variety then was soft wheat which likes a humid climate. Now-a-days the most common variety is a hard wheat which thrives in a drier climate like the midwest, so the wheat belt has moved to the west. Ohio was a leader in wheat production in the 19th century, but today one is hard pressed to find a wheat field outside the new wheat belt. Most flour that we buy at stores today is either a hard wheat or a combination of hard and soft wheat. However, White Lily Flour does package a soft winter wheat flour that one can still buy locally at Johnson's Grocery, and other stores where there products are sold. Be sure to check the contents before purchasing :-) Linda Trent 19th century historian :-) >I have so much enjoyed reading the posts from the Athens Messenger. 1. Re: [OHGALLIA-L] Looking for Berry Angel info
    2. Regina Smith
    3. Cheryl, I'm guessing that you were referring to me re: Berry Angel. I started to respond to Dr. Cook's previous inquiry about Berry Angel but I really have no more information than he does when it comes to Berry. I believe my Cornelius Angel is a son of Berry and am also interested in any information that might be turned up. There is another researcher in Gallia County who is also looking for information on Berry. He too has an ancestor that he belives is Berry's son. I know that Cornelius Angel maintained a family Bible record so if anyone out there has any information on that Bible, maybe we could confirm these relationships. James, my relationship to the Gallia County Angels is rather complicated in as much as my g grandmother, Ruth Jane Angel, granddaughter of Berry, married (1) Hezekiah Angel, son of Henry H.Angel then married (2) James Angel, son of Lawrence Angel. To further complicate things, Ruth Jane and Hezekiah's daughter, Sarah Sidney Angel, married another of Lawrence's sons, another Henry Hampton Angel. Henry Hampton & Sarah Sidney Angel Angel were my grandparents. Because both of Ruth Jane's husbands served in the Civil War, I have in my possesion the pension files and military records of both Hezikiah and James Angel. There were several investigations regarding the soldiers' pensions so there were dozens of depositions taken. Among those, Ruth Jane attempts to clarify hers, her husbands and her fathers relationships to each other. In two of Ruth Jane's depositions, she states that her first husband, Hezekiah and her second husband, James were first cousins and that James and her father were first cousins. One of those reads: " James L. Angel is my first cousin by marriage. My husband (Hezekiah) was my second cousin. (Actually first cousin once removed.) My husband and James L. Angel were cousins. James L. Angel was also my second cousin by my father." (Again, her first cousin once removed.) In response to a question about her relationship with James Angel, another deposition reads: "He and my husband were own cousins and Jim Angel and my father were cousins and my daughter married his brother." I know that this does not clarify Cornelius' relationship to Berry but it clearly shows that these are descendents of three different Angel brothers. As Yet, I have been unable to locate any primary documentation that links Cornelius and Berry Angel or Henry H. and Hezekiah Angel. In a deposition by Cornelius he mentions recording the birth of one of Ruth Jane's children in his Bible so I do know that his Bible was out there someplace and can only hope that it turns up! cheryl enyart <trayne1837inc@yahoo.com> wrote: There isn't a will listed for Berry Angel. 3. Does anyone know where the name "Ellsworth" would come from? It was my great-grandfather's given name, so I'm curious. There was a long tradition in some of my lines of using the mother's maiden name as a son's first name (i.e. Lydia Hawley m. Aaron Sanford, named son Hawley Sanford), but Ellsworth never shows up as a surname in those lines. It's not a common name, so does anyone know the origin? Pam

Have you checked with the Cabell County Court House in Huntington, West Virgina. Since he was there in 1910, perhaps he married there before moving to Middletown. Which Middletown, Ohio are you looking at? There are 3 of them. One in Butler Co, one in Crawford Co., and one in Champaign Co. I assume you mean the one in Butler Co., close to Cincinnati, Ohio. I will be in Huntington in a few days. If I can get a chance I will look there for you. 3. Jean, Thank you so very much. At least now I can rule out Lawrence County. It's down to a two year period so surely he can be found. 3. That would be great Cheryl. All I know so far is that Jacob Boyles lived in Raccoon Township in 1830 and I think he died in 1837. William Boyles showed in Springfield township in 1830 but I don't find him in 1840 so I don't know if he died or moved away. This may be a wild goose chase and I appreciate it if you could look. I'd be happy to pay for any copy charges if you find documents that mention a daughter of Jane Dulaney(Delaney) -----Original Message----- From: cheryl enyart [mailto:trayne1837inc@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, April 03, 2005 8:57 PM To: OHGALLIA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: FW: [OHGALLIA-L] Searching for Boyles Land Records are not in probate, they are in the recorders office.Do you know what township they came out of? I have to make a trip to the courthouse this week, I could try and find them. Cheryl Sharon Hobart <slhobart@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Thanks Cheryl. I have a copy of the Jacob pages 173 & 187. All that has is the inventory of his estate but no mention of children, etc. I thought maybe the probate records or land records would have something recorded where the children's names are mentioned. Based on the census in 1830 he would have had children. Also, the same for William. I'm also most sure either Jacob or William is Jane's father but just got to find something to show it. Thanks for any help you can provide. -----Original Message----- From: cheryl enyart [mailto:trayne1837inc@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, April 03, 2005 6:50 PM To: OHGALLIA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: FW: [OHGALLIA-L] Searching for Boyles Jacob E-1834 JWBD ppgs 173,187 None for William . Does anyone know how I can find out if there are probate records on either a Jacob or William Boyles? Thanks, Sharon Hobart Ft. I'm trying to research the parentage of Jane Boyles and am suspicious that either a William Boyles or Jacob Boyles might be her father but can't find any clues. They are both living in Gallia Co. during the early 1800's. Jane was born in Ohio @ 1812-1813 and married Daniel Dulaney (Delaney) September 19, 1830. in Gallia Co. They lived in Raccoon Township through 1840 and shortly after migrated to Champaign Co., IL. I assume she was born in Gallia Co. There were quite a few Boyles getting married in Gallia Co., during the 1820-1840's but don't know if they are her siblings or not. I have a copies of the originals from the will book of Jacob Boyles about the selling of property for his estate in 1834 but there is no mention of children, etc. and his wife Sally was made administrator. Does anyone have access to an index of probate records to see if there is anything for either a Jacob Boyles or even William Boyles? Or any information is welcomed! Thanks, Sharon Hobart Ft.
