All I know so far is that Jacob Boyles lived in Raccoon Township in 1830 and I think he died in 1837. William Boyles showed in Springfield township in 1830 but I don't find him in 1840 so I don't know if he died or moved away. This may be a wild goose chase and I appreciate it if you could look. Based on the census in 1830 he would have had children. Also, the same for William. I'm also most sure either Jacob or William is Jane's father but just got to find something to show it. I'm trying to research the parentage of Jane Boyles and am suspicious that either a William Boyles or Jacob Boyles might be her father but can't find any clues. They are both living in Gallia Co. during the early 1800's. Jane was born in Ohio @ 1812-1813 and married Daniel Dulaney (Delaney) September 19, 1830. in Gallia Co. They lived in Raccoon Township through 1840 and shortly after migrated to Champaign Co., IL. I assume she was born in Gallia Co. There were quite a few Boyles getting married in Gallia Co., during the 1820-1840's but don't know if they are her siblings or not. I have a copies of the originals from the will book of Jacob Boyles about the selling of property for his estate in 1834 but there is no mention of children, etc. and his wife Sally was made administrator. Does anyone have access to an index of probate records to see if there is anything for either a Jacob Boyles or even William Boyles? Or any information is welcomed! Thanks, Sharon Hobart Ft. 2. Here is the obit of Charles N. Gooch. Please put my name with it and my email. I think I am the only person in the world researching this family and It may be a miracle if I ever find another person in this family!! Thanks. Karen Seibert The following obit was found in a box of pictures belonging to Debbie Gooch. It was a very dark copy of the original newspaper obit. In Memory Charles N. Gooch, son of Robert and Mary Jane Gooch, was born August 17, 1846, and died June 11, 1921, aged 74 years, 9 months, and 25 days. He suffered the loss of his first wife, Mary Moore, who died in May, 1882, leaving four daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Lewis and Mrs. J.J. Borger of Columbus, while Mrs. William Upton and Mrs. Charles Graham preceded their father in death. In May 1887, he married Mary Rees, who died Oct. 2, 1910. To this union were born six children, Mrs. Floyd Cardwell of Bidwell, Miss Edith Gooch, Columbus, Mrs. Floyd Logue, Kenmore, Mrs. Everett Deckard, Vinton, Robert R. Gooch, Vinton, and one child who died in infancy. He leaves 14 grandchildren and four brothers, James M. and David E. of Vinton, William R. of Bidwell and John R. of rising Sun, Ohio and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Waples of Huntsville, Ohio. It can be truly stated that the departed was blessed with a kind and tender spirit toward everyone, enjoyed happiness with others and shared their sorrow in grief. Endowed by nature with a peaceful and gentle disposition, hi s character was full of kindness, sympathy, righteousness, friendship and love for everyone. The bodily affliction that had disabled him for a number of years made even stronger these noble traits of his character. With a steadfast conviction for righteousness, he became a member of the Baptist Church at Harris and exemplified a clean, Christian life. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at Mt. Tabor, conducted by Rev. W.J. Fulton, burial by Butler. Card of thanks: We hereby express our thanks to all our neighbors and friends who so kindly gave their help and sympathy during the sickness, death, and funeral of our beloved father. The children.

    3. Karen, Butler Funeral Home was in Vinton , Ohio. He was killed in a traffic accident and the funeral home was sold to Vernon McCoy. Herb Moore is now the owner of the McCoy Moore Funeral home . I talked with Herb about 2 years ago about the whereabouts of the records for this funeral home. They were the property of the Butler family . I tracked them down and found that the son who was heir burned all the records from his father. It is too bad that records from the funeral homes were not perseved or thought of as valuable information. It is not uncommon to find that the family of the deceased funeral director will destroy them. I spoke with the family of Steve Thomas who had the funeral home at Centerville, those were destroyed also. The Coleman Records that were published by the Gallia County OGS Chapter were found in a dumpster after an auction in Bidwell. They were rescued and donated to the genealogical society. The Glassburn Funeral Home records may still be with the family. I had a lead on them about 6 months ago but nothing has come of that. It is tragic but not uncommon that such valuable records are destroyed. We have published the George J. Wetherholt books, Stephen's , and Miller's Funeral Home books . Since I have been unable to find a death certificate for him, I thought about inquiring about this Butler. Does anyone know of this name? Thank you, Karen Ft. 3. Joanne and Marilyn, I have been working on my First Family file to submit and I wasn't paying attention. It wasn't till I read the post of Alva Fred, son of Alma and Fred, that it hit me. I dove into the family tree maker and found the information that you need.. Sorry to be so lax. but I am working on the applications for First Family and Civil War and Settlers and Builders I completely lost track of what is going on. I got so excited that I have 12 Settlers and Builders to put in the new lineage society and 2 more in the Civil War and 1 brand new proven ancestor for the First Families. Sidney Root is the father of Fred Ferdinand Root, who married my Aunt Alma Juirtta George in 1920. Alva Fred was named for Alma's twin brother Alva and Fred for his father. It was a very tragic death. The house caught on fire while Uncle Fred was away working on the Railroad. Aunt Alma was unable to get little Alva out of the burning home. Aunt Alma nearly lost her mind, she tried to drown herself in the river. They lived on the river bank on Rt#7 across from the Kanauga Switch house. Uncle Fred found her at the water's edge ready to walk into the cold river. Here is the info from my FTM. on Sidney Root. Sidney Root , died July 12,1922 Obit from Gallipolis Daily Tribune Sidney Root, a truck farmer, sixty years old, living , above George's Creek , was found dead in a hay mow this morning. He was a member of the Kanauga M.E. Church, and leaves a widow, boy and girl. He had been feeling poorly for several days, and was not a church on Sunday, an unusual thing for him as he was a devoted christian man. Doubtless heart disease carried him off, although we have no definite particulars. Gallipolis Journal July 15, 1922 Sidney Root, a well known truck gardener of Addison Township , was found dead in his hay mow, Monday. He was aged 60 and left a widow and 2 children. Mr.Root was know for many years as a grocery clerk in Gallipolis, being last at the Ford grocery. He was an inductrious worker , conscientious and religiously inclined. He is buried at Pine Street cemetery. Feb 8, 1932 Gallipolis Tribune. Mrs. Sidney Root Passes Funeral Wednesday. P.M. Mrs. Sidney Root died early Monday morning at her home in Kanauga at the age of sixty four. Her condition had been critical for several weeks. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. E.C. Venz at the Kanauga church. Interment under the direction of George J. Wetherholt and Sons in Pine Street Cemetery. Mrs. Root is survived by a son Fred Root and a daughter Mrs. Nevin (Nora) Wood of Kanauga. If you want I can post Mary Finley Root's father's obit. He was John Finley from Clay township. Her mother was the former Caroline Danforth. Mary had 6 sisters and 3 brothers. How are you connected to Uncle Fred's family.....
