Cheryl and list, Well, if you need help and can't find what you need, come out and we will go through all these papers and maybe find your connection. (Remember though, I'm moving my office into another room so things are a mess again) My mother-in-law proved several people for my father-in-law the first year of First Families and if anyone would be interested in any of the Wood, Fee, McCarley, Glassburn and any other connecting family that has been proven I will be glad to help you make your connection for First Families. According to the files I have from my mother-in-law, John and Jane Fee Glassburn died in Whiteside Co., Illinois. I also see that all of the children except for Mary Jane Glassburn who was married to Samuel E.B.McCarley died in Tampico, Whiteside Co., Illinois. Mary Jane Glassburn McCarly died in Raccoon Twp., Gallia County as did her husband. They are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Rio Grande as are most of the Wood descendants. I have the birth and death dates for 6 children of John and Jane Fee Glassburn. I also believe I have a copy of the document you mentioned because I have read that information in some of these papers. Marjorie L. I haven't been following this thread because I don't have the name Drummond in my data base. However, I notice Loucks appearing in this message. I do have Loucks in my database, and they should qualify for First Families. E-mail me if this is pertinent. Neil E.
Denise, do you know if John Carter and Mary Lehr had a daughter names Sally Ann Carter, born 17 Oct 1827, married to John M. Bostic ??? If so, I have gone back another generation, Sally Ann Carter was my 2nd great grandmother!!! On 4/27/2005, "Denise Ashleman" <saultz@bellsouth.net> wrote: >I would like to know if there are any Board Certified, Accredited Genealogists in Gallia, County. Due to the fact that I am "just doing" genealogy, I though I should have a professional genealogist work on John Carter and Mary Lehr Carter. At least 50 people in more than 50 years have not been able to find out any more than the fact that they were married in Shenandoah, Virginia. John Carter lived in Gallia County for about 60 years, had nine children and score of grandchildren. None of the books on John and Mary are correct, files are missing. The Will book states that John has a will on file, however, it has been gone for more than the four years I have been working on the Carter's. There has to be something that gives some information about John and Mary's family and place of birth! If anyone has any suggestions about where to find this information, I am open for anything. I have worked on about every branch in the Carter family going back to the early 1600's in ! I, as well as many other people on the list, have ancestors from Germany, many of them came to Pennsylvania. An amazing amount of these families ended up in Gallia County. I have forwarded any information on surnames I recognized to the appropriate member of the list. Are the books on births in Pennsylvania transcriptions of birth records? It is unclear because you stated that he authored the set of 14, not compiled, edited and published them. I still have many family members that I am in contact with and they can check out these >publications for fourth and fifth generation ancestors that have been difficult to find. >I have the records of a "cow pox" vaccination a Great Great Aunt had to receive prior to traveling to America. Or it could hae been mispelled in the yearbook. Ms. Sargent, Saw in the list of surnames that you are researching was CORNELL. Was any of your Cornell line from Gallia County. Would like to discuss which Cornells that you are researching with you. Peter Cornell born 1760 in VA; died 1839 in Gallia County is the farthest back I have in my research of my line of Cornells. F.K. The one in the year book may not be the same one because it is spelled LEEPER or it could be like when my grandmother changed the spelling of Gillum to Gilliam just because she didn't like the way it looked. That was loads of fun when my Dad died and his name was spelled two different ways on documents. No, I haven't yet, but it is a thought. I might have a missing link.. with Henry, but I am almost positive that I can prove Henry's father. Thanks for the info. That would be great. I have 1 new one for Mom's side but none on Dad.. Thanks Cheryl "Marjorie L. Gilliam Wood" <mlwood@eurekanet.com> wrote:Cheryl, Have you proved these people for First Families? Sharon, I will see if I can go back and find the Stewart Clendenin obit. I know just about where it is. So, I will go back and find it.. that will let you know if it is yours or not. Cheryl SGates1949@aol.com wrote:Were there any schools way, way back? In Moses Gates' family in the early Censuses (about 1840 or so) one of his sons was listed as a Scholar or a Student. Does anyone know anything about the Anna Gates listed in the yearbook list published? How about Stewart Clendenin? I am Clendenin two ways in Olde Virginia, now West Virginia. My great-grandmother was Mary Alice Clendenin. Some say they all sprang from one Glendenning who started it all. They have a big Clendenin/Clendenen DNA test out there. Unfortunately, the women aren't doing these DNA tests because they are for surnames and going through the male line. They can find out things through the maternal line with the women, though, which is interesting, too, I think. Enough rambling. Keep posting the old stuff-it is so great to read-the papers, etc. Thanks for Cheryl trying to help me with the Morning Dawn Lodge of the Masonic Order, too.
