The first known Dawson in my line is from Rappahannock County Virginia about 1800. Robert Dawson's sons, William, John Waldo and Albert, left Virginia after 1843 with their re-married mother, now Priscilla Hackley Dawson Freeman. They migrated through Harrison County, Virginia (now WV) showing up in the 1850 Census. By 1860, John Waldo and William lived in Jackson County, Ohio. The Freeman family was living in Vinton County 1860-1870. Through this web site I have connected with Gallia County Collard Cousins. William Dawson married Eliza Jane Collard. Mary Dawson b. abt 1840 married John Ayleshire in Ohio. That connection also from subscribers such as we. John Waldo Dawson married into the James Murphy family. He served in Union Army, drafted from Ironton. John Waldo Dawson married Mary Isabella Murphy 1866 in Jackson County, Ohio. Mary Isabella is also connected through the Abraham Collard line. The Dawson/Murphy branch migrated to the Montgomery and Dickson County areas of Tennessee about 1872. There they remained. Two sisters are unaccounted for: Elizabeth b. abt 1834, Harriet b. abt 1842. Their last know address was Harrison County, Virginia 1850. Albert Dawson, b. abt 1836 also was last sighted in Harrison County, Virginia. William Dawson disappeared between 1860 and 1870 although his daughter, Mary, lived with her Manring aunt and Collard grandmother in Vinton County in 1870. By 1880 she was old enough to be married and probably was. So she, too, is missing. I do not recognize any of the family names from your list. However, my Ireland connection comes through James Murphy. If any of these names or locations ring a bell, please ask for further details. I would love to have someone connect to these missing ancestors. Thanks for asking. I am also researching this family but I have less information than you on Nancy Cotrell. I have a couple of other Lasley's in my line (John b. abt 1766 in VA & dau. Ruth b. 1792 m. Hiram Wilson PERRY/PEERY on 25 Dec 1811). I have Nancy listed as the d/o Andrew and Mary Davis Cotrill so this may not even be the correct Nancy although the time frame is about right and she had a brother, Henry who I have found to have died in Meigs Co., OH. I also have some GILBERT's who came out of Baltimore and Harford Co., MD. Other names I have are Sherwood Cecil Northrup m. to Louise THOMPSON Several BAKER's and a ROOS who could actually be a ROOD Michelle Kennedy Byrd > [Original Message] > From: <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Date: 3/22/2007 1:37:42 PM > Subject: [OHGALLIA] Lasley-Cottrell > > I am trying to verify that Emily Lasley b 1828 in Gallia County was the > daughter of David Lasley b 1800 in KY m Nancy Cottrell b 1807 in VA.The date I > have for their marriage is 16 Jun 1825, poss in Gallia County. > > Is anyone researching this family who could help me out? > > Thanks! > > Joanne Galvin > > Researching Northup, Hampton, McCall, Phelps, Blake, Daggett, Syler, > Berridge,Plymale, Kinder, Cottrell, Gilbert, Baker, Rood > > > > > ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. > Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com. > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
This Nancy was the daughter of Edward Cottrell. Henny Elsie Rarey <[email protected]> wrote: Nancy "Polly" Cottrill b. 1800/01 Harrison Co. I am trying to verify that Emily Lasley b 1828 in Gallia County was the daughter of David Lasley b 1800 in KY m Nancy Cottrell b 1807 in VA.The date I have for their marriage is 16 Jun 1825, poss in Gallia County. Joanne, it just occured to me that I do have the answer...it kept bugging me that I'd seen that in a Chancery suit. So, I checked and found that in 1851 in a case of John D. Kennedy vs. heirs of Edward Cottrell....the heirs named included Nancy Roe. Nancy was first married to David Lasley and when he died she married to Cornelius Roe. Anyway, the suit goes on to say the following children of an unknown heir inherited....these being Oliver M., EMILINE, Augustus, Simeon and James Lasley, minor children of unnamed heir. Unnamed because they could not make the connection to Nancy being a Lasley by her first marriage. So, anyway, here is Emiline daughter of Nancy Cottrell and David Lasley. I know this of no real help, but I looked thru some old Lasley files and a woman I helped in 1986 showed this to be on an ancestor chart but no proof offered. She married, of course, one of your Kinders. But again, no proof. In your searches for HURBAUGH you might want to be alert for other spellings, I know a guy here in Columbus named ARBAUGH and it is probably all in the family. HARBAUGH might be another spelling to watch for. On 3/21/2007, "Teresa M. Herrmann" <[email protected]> wrote: >Kathy: > >I'm truly sorry about the loss of your son.
