I have a question for the list. I'm about to have a number of copies of my family history published, some to donate to local libraries and genealogical societies and a couple to sell to family and friends. I would like to hear (write me privately if it's not appropriate for the list) what your thoughts are between coil binding and hardcover, and what you prefer as fellow genealogists. Do any of you have other thoughts for me to consider? Here are a few of my thoughts. Coil -- the book lies flat and stays where you open it. Hard -- the book never truly lies flat and the pages flip if you don't weigh them down. Hard -- has name on the side for easy searching on the shelves. Coil -- just black plastic staring at you from the shelves. Coil -- can make copies without worrying about breaking the spine. Hard -- can make copies, but side of copy may curve due to not being able to lie flat. Hard -- will last longer and has a good sturdy cover to protect it. Coil -- cheaper, so you can buy two at the price of one, so if it doesn't last as long... I see benefits both ways. Any suggestions? You're the folks that are going to be using this book. ;-) Thanks, Linda Tope Trent [email protected]
I have all of mine coil bound, but I did it myself. I am sure a hardbound would last longer, but I purchased an inexpensive coil binder, designed my own covers, and now can update them without added expense. One time I met a lady here on the list.. who was looking for information on the George surname. I have Georges, but my family came from New England. If I remember the family was of Richard and Benjamin George , they traveled from Columbiana County, Oh. I have found the info that she wanted... but now can't find her. If you have the George surname that came from Columbiana County to the Morgan Township area.. please let me know. I have a book that was loaned to me and I will be more than happy to copy some of it for you .. Ellen --------------------------------- Boardwalk for $500? In 2007? Ha! I don't know if any of you know that Shari Little-Creech's son , Ryan was involved in an ATV accident a little over a week ago... Ryan broke his back in 2 places and has a spinal column injury and also a broken sternum. He has been transfered from the hospital in North Carolina where he was taken after the accident. As you all know Shari is the genealogist and author of the new Cheshire book. Ryan did alot to help Shari with this book... well, they are like family to many of us.. I hope that Marty and the rest of you don't mind, this little side track , but it will benifit us all. I asked Paul and Shari if I could put Ryan's hospital address on here so that we can shower him with encouragement and good will.... He is in Cincinnati, at the DRAKE CENTER... for rehabilitation.. the doctors there are very good and well, I am praying for a good prognosis... SO, please send Ryan Creech a card with lots of love and encouragement. Here is the address. Yes, they are there. It is great to be able to access information in real time. I have been there before but have not been using that database. Guess I will start using it more. The is still a place for printed cemeter books. Not every body has a computer. Mary Lee, I sent the corrections to the OHGALLIA mailing list. The reason I sent the corrections to the mailing list is because I wanted the mailing list to know about them. Otherwise, the mailing list people would have to wait years for the next reprint of the cemteries book and then, if they bought the book, would see the correction, if it was put in. Sending corrections to the mailing list lets the list see them now. It also allows them to make comments on the corrections if they have any. I have other corrections to make. The Lima Daily News, March 23, 1912 Transcribed as is by Joyce Robinson BODY OF MISSING MINISTER IS FOUND Such is the Belief in the Discovery Made Near Gallipolis. By United Press. Gallipolis, O., March 23 -- The mysterious disappearance of Rev. L. S. FULLER, pastor of the Methodist church at Bidwell, 10 miles from this city on February 3, was recalled today by the finding of the mutilated body of a man near the Gallia county children's home three miles from here. The body was found last night by EARNEST DAVIS, a rural mail carrier. Parts of the head and trunk had been eaten away by animals and efforts at identification have failed thus far. It is impossible also to determine the cause of death. Authorities in charge of the investigation recalled that Rev. Fuller was walking in the direction of home when he was last seen by acquaintances in this vicinity. Mrs. FULLER, wife of the missing pastor now lives in Columbus, although she lived in Lexington, Ky., at the time of the disappearance. She has offered a reward for information regarding the fate of her husband. FULLER was about 60 years of age and the father of six children. Before going to Bidwell last fall he was an officer in the Kentucky anti-saloon league at Lexington. He conducted a religious meeting at Evergreen church near Bidwell. on the night he disappeared. For three days Gallia county was searched by a large party on the theory that the minister had either been murdered or had committed suicide. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

I have the early Gallia County marriage books and I can't find what I'm looking for. What I'm looking for is information on a Matilda Carter who married a Mr. Monroe. Matilda is the daughter of James Carter, and *possibly* a sister to a Nancy Carter. I bring this up only on the grounds that after Matilda died he married a third time to Nancy Carter. I believe this marriage probably took place in West Virginia. Matilda is a relatively unusual name. Here she is in the 1900 census with two of her children 14 years apart, both with the surname Monroe. Monroe, Matilda A. Head W F July 1856 age 43 wd. Mother of four children -- three living. Matilda was born in Ohio, her father was born in Ohio and her mother was born in New Jersey. She is listed as a farmer, and owns her own farm free of mortgage. Her oldest son Henry W. S M Sept.1875 age 24 S b. West Virginia, both parents born in Ohio, and he's a farm laborer. Her other son is Herbert W. W M Oct. 1889 age 10 S b. West Virginia, both parents born in Ohio, and he's a student. By the 1910 census John and Matilda are living together on Tick Ridge Road in Harrison Twp. No children, so Herbert must have grown up and gotten married, or decided to stay with his brother Henry W. Does anyone know anything more about this particular family? About these Carters or these Monroes? Thanks! Linda Trent [email protected]
