    3. I wanted to thank both of you for adding to my confidence about posting here. Oh, I remembered later that I had Phoebe's maiden name wrong. Betz not Lutz. I was going through the Gallia County list of cemeteries and remembered that they often list maiden names as middle one. I have been looking at the Gallia County web page. It's kind of interesting how much information they have available for the family history buff. Eventually, I'm going to have to visit and see the records for myself. Thanks, all. Doug

    3. Just so you'll know we are still here I'll give you a quick answer! I have a few Myers' but mine came from Shenandoah Co. VA. about 1840 and were gone from Gallia by 1860. So I doubt they would help you. There are a lot of Myers in Gallia Co so I'm sure someone will answer you! My name is Doug Uptegraft. I hope that this e-mail group is still in service, because I would love to connect with others doing research in or around Gallia County, Ohio. My mother was Thelma J. (Martin) Uptegraft. She died earlier this year very suddenly. Ever since, I have been drawn to study her side of my family tree. Her mother Lena (Myers) Martin is still alive at nearly 90 years of age, but doesn't seem to remember much about the subject of ancestors; her parents were Joshua Myers and Phoebe (Lutz?) Myers. My grandfather was John L. Martin, son of James E. Martin and Celia (Fuller) Martin. I have quite a few census records regarding the family, probably the most conclusive "proof" of lineage that I have. I am genuinely hoping to find others who know more than I do. I will keep this e-mail short as I do not know how much use this e-mail list gets. If it isn't very busy, I figure that I haven't lost anything more than a couple of minutes in typing what I have today. 3. Mr. Lewis, Could not find a marriage for a Jonas Butcher or Flora Flesher in the 1880 time period you requested. I looked in Marriage Records 1851-1900, Gallia Co., Ohio and found nothing. Do you have an alternate date ? 1. Re: [OHGALLIA] research at 57 Court Street
    2. Linda Trent
    3. Shirley, Just kinda depends what kind of roads you want to take. I'm assuming you mean Wheelersburg, Scioto County, Ohio. You have two options -- Coming in from the North: To cut off the hump of the River you could take 140 over to Hitchcock (or really just south of Hitchcock), then go north on 93 to Oak Hill, and from Oak Hill cut across on 279 to 35 and come in on 35. This is the shortest way, though may be the longest in time because the roads aren't near as good. Going through Gallipolis from Rt. 35 to the center of town seems like an eternity, but you will get there. :-) As you near Court Street you'll see a Little Ceasar's Pizza on the left, and Grace United Methodist Church on the right, the US Post Office on the right, and then State Street (one side of the town square). Court Street is the next street and you want to go right (away from US Bank or whatever their name is this week <grin>). The Genealogical Society is about half way up the first block on the left. Coming in from the South: Or you could just stay on the River 52N and follow it till it turns into Rt. 7, which runs right into Gallipolis. And this is the longer way, but probably the shortest in time. Stay on Rt. 7 N all the way into Gallipolis. You'll pass St. Rte. 218 coming in from the left, continuing on 7 you'll enter a little community of Lower Garfield, and 7 will wind around a bend and Willis Funeral Home will sit at the junction of 7 and 141. Continue on 7 and you're entering downtown proper. You'll come to Grape Street with Tope Furniture on the Right and Foodland on the left. The next street should be Court. There's an excellent map of downtown Gallipolis online at http://tinyurl.com/ytfm5z Also don't forget the Historical and Genealogical Society that is located just around the corner from the Genealogical Society on Second Ave. (Rt. 7). Bossard Library is about three blocks from the societies, the court house about two.
