Jerry, I agree with you.....any added notations can be a huge help!? One example of this is the name "George Lewis"? In the cemetery book that has his father "Hiram E Lewis" it shows a George Lewis, his wife Martha, and their son who died at an early age.? Many people have mistaken this George for mine and so have the wrong George in their research (This George is George Washington Lewis whom I have not yet found a connection to).? Someone has hand-written in a description of the cemetery and directions on how to get there which was most helpful!? It is on Private Property and has not been in use since about 1915.? Many of the headstones are broken and/or unreadable.? We have documented and taken photos of what is left even tho none are of my family and have uploaded info from the trip and others from pages copied and sent to me before my trip from another researcher who has been helping me out (She lives up there and I only get about 2 days a year there with visiting family! too).? When someone knows who someone is/was married to and possibly even the childrens' names...it helps to know if you have the correct person or not.? Jerry, I made the change from Cam to Campbell. It would seem straightforward from your close family information that Jacob K. Deckard and Elizabeth Rees Deckard would be husband and wife and that this information would be solid enough to add h/o and w/o to their cemetery entries. Okay? I'm searching or Elizabeth Fry b. 1852 who married Daniel Miller b. 1844. They are buried in Sandfork Cemetery, Walnut Township, Gallia County, OHIO.
The following article was printed in the "Gallipolis Daily Tribune", on Thursday, March 03, 1932: "HOME FROM HOSPITAL Willard McLeod was taken from Holzer Hospital to his farm home on the Portsmouth Road this forenoon in his own car, Mrs. McLeod driving. He has recovered rapidly from the fun shot wound he received on Washington's birthday, but his right arm and hand are still sore and stiff. A 22-caliber bullet from a new type of high-speed cartridge entered his nape and made its exit from his right jaw near the chin. The Gun was fire accidentally by McLeod's brother-in-law, Willis L. Russell, Columbus, while McLeod was moving a target at which the two had been shooting." [Teresa Herrmann]
The following obituary was printed in the "Gallipolis Daily Tribune" on Thursday, March 03, 1932: "JOHN SWISHER DIES FUNERAL SATURDAY John Swisher, 79, passed away late Wednesday evening at his home near Little Kyger. He will be buried in Gravel Hill Cemetery following funeral services at Little Kyger Christian church Saturday, 1 p.m. By Rev. Scott Mossman. Arrangements are in charge of J. L. Coleman, of Bidwell. Mr. Swisher is survived by four sons and two daughters: Arthur of New York, Bud of Columbus, Ermin and Duffy, at home, Mrs. Peters, Cheshire and Mrs. Hulda Jenkins of Kyger." [Teresa Herrmann]
The following obituary was printed in the "Gallipolis Daily Tribune" on October 03, 1931, Saturday: "GALLIA COUNTIAN KILLED WHEN TRAIN HITS CAR Isaiah Shoemaker, 63, a resident of the Poplar Ridge neighborhood, Gallia County, was instantly killed Tuesday of this week near Marysville, when the automobile in which he was riding with his sister-in-law, Mrs. Laura Shoemaker, who was also killed, when their machine was struck by a train. Mr. Shoemaker, who was blind, had arrived at the home of his brother John, in Union County, last Sunday for a visit. He had been cared for at the Gallia county home for years, Superintendent Thomas McClaskey reports, going about once a year for a visit with his brother." [Teresa Herrmann]
