    1. [OHGALLIA] Gallia County First Family
    2. RICHARD LAND
    3. I have a colateral ancestor who may fall in the first family category. His name is Lewis Land. He probably arrived with two brothers and two sisters from VA before 1820. He owned 40 acres of property in Jackson County but apparently lived in Gallia County. Lewis was a Justice of Peace in the 1842-43 time frame in Gallipolis and later moved to Adamsville where he was living when he died on 1 Febuary 1844. Although I do not have any record, he is believed to be buried in Watson Cemetery. Estate and probate records in 1847 identify some but not all of his heirs. His brother, George relocated to Switzerland County, IN and married there in 1824. His brother, Elijah married in Gallia County in 1825 and relocatd near his brother, George in the late 1830s. Lewis was married to Catherine (Katherine) Wood and her parents are believed to be Jessie Wood and Lyda Mcullough. Jessie was born in VA in 1765 and died in Gallia County abt 1837. Jessie married Lyda on 11 Dec 1787 in VA and married Mary Cooper 23 Dec 1829 in Gallia County. _________________________________________________________________ See what you’re getting into…before you go there http://newlivehotmail.com/?ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_viral_preview_0507

    2. freedbyluvv
    3. Hello list, I have finally tracked down where I purchased the book by Wayne B. Ingles, Symmes Creek" he wrote in 1976. This book is not on their listed inventory, but I just phoned them, and a woman named Mary there confirmed that they still have quite a few copies left. This book has been out of print for many years. Someone used to see these books out at a farm somewhere in Gallia, but stopped doing so many years ago. Then, a sister-in-law of the author's widow found a box of 400 of them in a basement or attic somewhere a few months ago, and let the Gallia Co. Historical/Gen. Society have them to sell. http://www.zoomnet.net/~histsoc/pubs.html All contact information to that Society is at the link above. Cost is $10.00 shipping is $3.00 -------- total $13.00 Ohio residents add .68c for tax. --April. --------------------------------- Luggage? GPS? Comic books? 1. [OHGALLIA] Gertrude (Ledlie) Deckard
    2. Gerald Deckard
    3. Drema, Today is our lucky day. Mary Gertrude Ledlie married Rev. Walter Deckard. Rev. Deckard was a very prominent Baptist minister. There is a street named after him in Boston; Deckard St. Gertrude and Walter adopted my father, J. Russell Deckard, when he was a baby. Ironically, after I received your email today, I received a box from my brother with loads of material. It included my father's birth certificate identifying who his natural parents were. After my mother's death, I went to live with Gertrude, for two years, in her large home in Newton, MA. Mabel Jones lived in the house next door. I understood there was a relationship there. Thanks to your email, it no appears they were sisters. The attached cemetery markers are of Gertrude, Walter, Gertrude's mother and Amy Ann Tyler. Amy is another relative who I intend to do research on. I hope to get more information from you to fill in the gap between Phineas Matthews and Gertrude and Mabel. I am sure I will come up on more information on Gertrude. And I would also like to research Mabel. I will have more information on Mabel. I will send you a separate email on Rev. 3. Hello, you're very welcome. This book was self published by Wayne B. Ingles in 1976. The only SIMS of any spelling is Albert G. Sims. He is listed as the postmaster for Waterloo, Lawrence Co. Jan. 14, 1886. There is a mention of John Cleave SYMMES. (perhaps pronounced as Sims?) "Symmes Creek was named for John Cleave Symmes. Harrison, Tupper and Symmes were en route up the Ohio River on horse back to attend the court of common pleas at Gallipolis and high water stopped them below the creek. J.C. SYMMES cut his name on a big beech tree and thus named the creek." --------------------------------------------------------------- There are no Danner listings. -------------------------------------------------------------- Also there is someone else who asked for the Sims/Symmes surname as well as a "DENNY" request. You are asking for almost the same, the Sims, and DANNER. Would you like for me to pass on your e-mail address to them? Perhaps you're related? Her name is Nancy. She wrote me off list, so I don't know which list she belongs to, as I'd sent the offer to 4 different Ohio lists. ---April. [email protected] wrote: Hi April, Is the "Symmes Creek" book a new book? He is also on the 1850 census with wife Rosina [my Roswell was married to Elizabeth -- but he could have remarried.] However in looking at the children listed and where born it does not seem to be my Roswell. They were all born in PA except the youngest; she was born in Ohio about 1834/35. I have my Roswell in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 censuses -- All in Meigs, Gallia or Jackson Co., OH. The Huron Co. Roswell is age 54 in 1850. My Roswell was age 60-70 in 1840, 1830 census 50 - 66 and 1820 census he was 26 - 45. Which I figure puts his age between 40 and 45 in 1820 by looking at the other censuses. That also works with him being around 18 - 20 when he married in 1808. I'd love to claim the Huron Roswell. If you see something that I am missing, which I sure could be from looking at all this over and over, please let me know. Looking for people researching Roswell PHELPS OR a PHELPS ancestor born in Gallia or Meigs between 1808 and 1830 where you have not found their parents. What I know about him can be summed up in a few lines. Roswell PHELPS Married in Gallia Co. In 1852 signed a deed in Meigs Co., OH I found no land deeds or will for him and no tombstone in either Gallia or Meigs. He may or may not be the father of Conrad PHELPS If you are a Phelps researcher and have a Phelps ancestor who married in Gallia or Meigs between 1820 and 1850 and you believe they are a child of Roswell or you have not identified their parents I would like to talk with you. At this stage I am looking for anything, even where Roswell may have signed a deed or will as a witness or any mention of him anywhere. I know it sounds desperate, I am. lol 8-) Roswell just shows up in 1808 and disappears just as fast without leaving much of a trail..... other than 12 children. 8-) Hope every one is high and dry and keeping cool.
