Thanks, Pat, for your offer to check cemetery records for Mason Co. WVA. Would you see if you can find a date of death for a James HAMPTON. I last found him on the 1890 Veterans census, living in Mason Co. WVA. He served in the Civil War with the Ohio troops. I found his son, Hiram HAMPTON, who also served in the war with his father, James, married in Mason Co. WVA, late moved to Kansas, but no record of what happened to James. Appreciate your help. juanita > I have two or three cemetery record books from Mason County, West Va. > I'd be willing to look up any records if you have the name. Would > that help any? > > Pat
Do the Mason County death records have Jacob Swisher ,or Robert E.(Emery) Gordon families in them ? The Gordon`s are from Point Plesant Virginia (West Virginia now I think). Tim
I wrote the following e-mail to the West Virginia Archives Library that has posted all the birth, death, and marriage certificates/records: Dear Sirs/Madam: Will any more of the Mason County Death Records be posted in the future? Thanks, Teresa Herrmann Columbus, Ohio I received the following e-mail back from them today: Re: Vital Research Records: Its not in the immediate future, but will eventually go up. We'll try to let you know when they are completed.
In doing research, I've run across information that states an Alexander Church in Gallia Co., that was named in honor of Alexander Waddell? Is this true? Is this church still standing? If so, is there a known photo anywhere that I might be able to locate? I am descended from the Waddell's into the Hulbert family, and am very interested in finding a photograph of this church. Candy (Hulbert) Ditkowski
Candy, I did find the answer for you and meant to get back to you sooner. There were Waddell researchers in the Gallia Co. Genealogical Society, OGS Chapter this summer, and they told me the church is not there any more. It was supposedly named for Alexander Waddell. Do not know of any pictures but maybe someone on this list would know of one and share it with all. The New York Times archives are available for free or a small fee for certain articles.? I entered Gallia county and found 45 listings; Gallipolis produced over 100. These are some of the headings: Sale of the Gallipolis Railroad for $38,800? 27 August 1878 Riot and Murder in Church...a story about a love triangle and murder in a small country church in Porter Several citizens in Kygerville arrested for obstructing the mail 1867 Many names are mentioned.? I did not have any luck on searching for surnames, but there is gold in the place name articles. Here's how: If you go to the New York Times site, you can enter your search terms in the bar near the top of the page and select whether you want to search articles since 1981 or before 1981. Once you have your results, you can select the Advanced option to limit your search to specific dates. The stories are downloadable as PDF documents. (If you happen across articles that aren't in the free years, they're $4.95 each, or you can get a monthly pass for $7.95 that allows 100 story downloads.) karen ________________________________________________________________________ Email and AIM finally together.
