Hello Teresa, The reason I am doing it is because I noticed there was next to nothing available about the FCCH and it was such a beautiful building and touched many lives by getting homeless children off the streets and later removing neglected and abused children from bad homes. I want to collect as much info as possible and put into a book form, hard copy and CD Rom to donate to area historic preservation societies, Metro Library etc. and available to anyone who wants a copy. I am mainly interested in first hand accounts of life there, work there, interior pictures, daily activities, how the children lived, what mealtime was like, recreation, etc. Not sure about listing names or anything as far as copyright or privacy goes, but I could ask. Contributors will be thanked in the publication and it will be copyrighted to allow not for profit copies only so we don't see it on e-Bay someday. Grin (We recently finished the Limerick Cemetery, Jackson Co, OH) This all may be a pipe dream because FCCH was torn down over a half century ago, but I am going to try. Do you know if any of those employees came to the new location on Gantz and if any are still around? Thanks, Teresa! May I ask why your are doing this? What a wonderful project. Let me get started on Monday and Tuesday. Surely we have photos and stories around. At our agency, most retire after thirty years. I will see if any of the "old timers" remember anything. I spent a short time at the Gantz Rd. facility in the late 60's. Relatively a newbe I know, but it was a different world from what we use now. (I was fifteen at the time). I am so excited about your project. Terri P.S. on a different note; In my genealogy research I have learned that many of my people ended up in the "children's home" due to parents being killed, single parents working and not having child care, etc. I am sure you are finding out much about the realities of our history. > From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Date: Sat, 8 Mar 2008 14:11:12 -0500> Subject: Re: [OHFRANKL] Franklin County Children's Home> > Hello Teresa,> > The reason I am doing it is because I noticed there was next to nothing> available about the FCCH and it was such a beautiful building and touched> many lives by getting homeless children off the streets and later removing> neglected and abused children from bad homes. > > I want to collect as much info as possible and put into a book form, hard> copy and CD Rom to donate to area historic preservation societies, Metro> Library etc. and available to anyone who wants a copy.
