Hi, All! I just *have* to share the latest addition to my Franklin County ALHN Maps page. I just uploaded a PDF of the 1936 Franklin County Highway Map that includes the legend and the complete index of roads. You can't miss the link if you go to: http://www.genealogybug.net/franklin_county/maps.htm Enjoy! Just wondering if there is any chance that some kind soul on the list would be going to a library or archive where the Franklin County Probate Court Death Index records and the Columbus, Ohio Board of Health records are available any time in the near future? If so, I would really appreciate having someone (who is already planning to go there) check a death record for a lady who could possibly be my gr-gr-grandmother. In the Franklin County OH Probate Court Records for 1873, Vol. 1, page 70, there is a lady listed - indexed as "Garet, Lovina". I would like someone to look at the actual record - and also at the Columbus, Ohio Board of Health records to see if "Lovina GARET" could possibly really be "Louisa GARES". And if there is any evidence found at all for a Louisa Gares - I'd be absolutely thrilled! I know I'm grasping at straws, but it seems to me that a transcription error could account for "Garet, Lovina" really being "Gares, Louisa" - and 1873 and 1875 can be confused if the '3' and the '5' aren't written carefully. The gravestone in the Groveport Cemetery, Franklin Co, for 'my' Louisa GARES clearly says she died June 27, 1875 at age 77 - but gravestones have been known to contain errors too! She is buried there with her husband, Samuel Gares, who died in 1859. Groveport newspapers for those years are no longer available, and there is no record of her death or burial in the Canal Winchester papers of the era. We don't have a birth record for her either, so can't confirm age that way. Previous research done by OHS research staff indicates they were unable to find her death record in either the 1875 Franklin County Probate Court Death Index or the Columbus, Ohio Board of Health records for 1875, so I'm expanding my search for her. I've never been able to find my Louisa Gares in the 1870 Census either - except another 'possible' in Fairfield County, OH. There is a Louiza JAVIS, almost the right age, listed the 1870 Census for Clearport, Amanda Twp, Fairfield Co., living with Wm and Eliza White and their daughter Olive. I have no info about a connection between the GARES and WHITE families, but I'm thinking that poor handwriting and indexing could easily make "Louisa GARES" into "Louiza JAVIS" -- or difficult pronunciation could account for the variation in surname. Any info, assistance or insights for further research would really help me solve this long-standing gap in my info about my gr-gr-grandmother. With thanks in advance, Kaye Gares Steward Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
