Next door to Robert is his father? brother? Are Ichabod, Joseph, Robert and Daniel brothers?: DANIEL ROSS, Males: 1, 5 to under 10; 2, 15 to under 20; 1, 50 to under 60(1771-1780) Females: 1, 5 to under 10; 1, 10 to under 15; 1, 15 to under 20; 1, 50 to under 60 This is Daniel's last appearance on the census by his own name. Don't know what happened to his wife, or the rest of the family from the last census. He may have died in Ohio Co. VA or he could have gone with one of his sons, somewhere... 1820 VA(now W.VA), Ohio Co., Twp."not stated"; M33_140; pp.25&26 of 34 at Ancestry.com's Images Online This census is partially alphabetized, so though Ichabod and Daniel are both listed in the 'R's', they are recorded on two separate pages, about 45 households away from each other. On p.25: ICHABOD ROSS, Males: 1 under 10; 1, 26 to under 45 Females: 1 under 10; 1, 16 to under 25 On p.26: abt. 45 houses away: Daniel's numbers fit the Daniel from the 1810 PA census, plus children born between census years. DANIEL ROSS, Males: 2 under 10; 1, 10 to under 16; 1, between 16 and 18; 2, of 16 and under 26; 1, 26 to under 45(1776-1794); 1, 45 (bef. 1775); 4 in Agriculture Females: 2 under 10; 2, 10 to under 16; 1, 16 to under 26; 1, 26 to under 45 Looks as though he has his father or father-in-law living with him On p. 27: the fifth house away: JOHN ROSS, Males: 2 under 10; 1, 26 to under 45; 1, 45 ; 1 in Agriculture, 1 in Manufacturing Females: 3 under 10; 1, 26 to under 45 Looks as though John's wife has died Now the only ROSS in Franklin county in 1810, is John: 1810, VA(now W.VA), Ohio Co., Elizabeth Twp.; VAM252_70-0372; p. 20 of 46 at Ancestry.com's Images Online John Ross; Males: 3 under 10 (b.1800-1810); 1 of 45 (b.bef. 1765) Females: 3 under 10; 2 of 10 & under 16 (1794-1810); 1, of 16 & under 26 (1784-1794); 1 of 45 The VA census for 1800 no longer exists, BUT, For 1800 & 1810, we actually have to go to Pennsylvania - Daniel is in Washington Co., PA, which adjoins Greene county. Greene county was just split from Washington Co. in 1800, so everyone was living in the same county just before this census. This is important because I am certain that the Ichabod on the above censuses is the son of Isaac and Elizabeth (Pembroke) Ross, whom we find in Greene Co. PA on the 1820 & 1830 censuses. Isaac was a Rev. War Vet, and his family originates in New Jersey. He died in Athens Co., Ohio, where Ichabod and family had eventually settled. Isaac is on the 1840 Indiana, Saint Joseph Co. census, with his wife. He is age 80-90 (actually he gives 80 under his Veteran's info) and she is age 70-80. Does anyone have further information the SIBLINGS of Isaac Ross, or on his children? I can only find info on one son - Ichabod - though census readings in PA lead me to believe that there were others: Isaac Ross Jr., James, David, and Jacob A. All of whom are listed on the: 1830 Center Twp., Green Co.PA census on pp: 7 - Isaac Jr 9 - James & David 11 - Isaac Sr., and Jacob A. In 1820, same location, there is Isaac, Isaac Jr., and David Back to the Rosses in 1800: In 1800, William Ross is the ONLY Ross in Finley Twp, Washington Co., PA. As I said, Washington & Greene counties had just split, so he could have been living near other Rosses who are now in Greene county. Finley: M32_440056; p. 3 of 4 at Ancestry.com's Images Online William: Males: 1, 10 to under 15; 2, 15 to under 25; 1,45 (b.bef. 1755) Females: 1 under 10; 1, 10 to under 15; 1, 15 to under 25 Looks as though his wife has died. I have to say the while on the surface, it seems William could be Daniel's father, I don't think this is so. William's 'numbers' on the censuses do not reflect a son of Daniel's age going out on his own when he does. 1810 PA Washington Co., Finley Twp., M252_57 rp101, 102 & 104; pp. 2, 3 & 5 of 6 at Ancestry.com's Images Online Note-Finley Twp. did not split into E./W. until 1828, after our Rosses had left the area. On p.2 appears: THOMAS Ross, Males: 1under 10; 1, 45 Females: 1under 10; 2, 10 to under 16; 2, 16 to under 26; 1, 45 On p.3 appears: DANIEL Ross, Males: 2under 10; 1, 10 to under 16; 1, 26 to under 45 Females: 1under 10; 1, 10 to under 16; 1, 16 to under 26; 1, 26 to under 45; 1, 45 This is "our" Daniel's first appearance on his own. The older female could be his mother or m-i-l, and the female 16 to under 26 might be a sister, or a daughter?. On p.5 appears: WILLIAM Ross, Males: 1, 16 to under 26; 2, 26 to under 45; 1, 45 Females: 1, 10 to under 16; 1, 16 to under 26 The numbers would now seem to indicate that William's oldest daughter had either died or married. Neither William NOR Thomas Ross have been found on the 1820 census for sure. Either died, moved, or went to live in another household? Anyway, thanks for listening. It just seems to me that since these families seemed to be following each other around, there must be some relationship. Hope someone else out there is thinking the same thing!
