Younger, son, Sept. 1 NEWS OF YESTERDAY Thirty-nine years ago- (1906)- Roy Knabenshue, Toldeo aeronnaut arrived in the city for daily flights in his dirigible over downtown COlumbus as a feature of State Fair Week. Twenty-five years ago-(1920)- For the first time in Columbus history women served on a jury in municipal court, as authorized by the 19th Amendment. They were: Mrs. James Rector, Mrs. Maude Murray Miller, and Miss Mary Westwater. LOCAL DEATHS R.O. Bayles, Securities Firm head, is Dead. Funeral services will be held in the Masonic Temple at 2 p.m. Tuesday for Ralph Oakley Bayles, 46, of 160 Wintrhop Rd., whose death occurred Friday in Grant Hospital where he recently underwent an operation. Friends may call at the S. E. Corbin Funeral Home, Worthington, until 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, when the body will be taken to the Tmple, Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Following his graduation from Ohio State University in 1924, with a bachelor of science degree in business administration, Mr. Bayles was associated with the state department of securities for eight years and later formed the Ralph O. Bayles & Co., Inc., dealers in securities, with offices in Canton, Wooster and Springfield. Mr. Bayles, a veteran of World War I, was a member of Columbus Post of the American Legion, War Veterans Repubican Club, Republican Glee Club, New England F & A M Lodge of Worthington, Scottish Rite, Aladdin Temple shrine and Aladdin chanters. he was a charter member of the Franklin County Auxiliary Police and formerly a member of the North Broaddway Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kathryn Earl Bayles;three daughters, Martha Jeanne, Barbara Anne and Kathryn Annette Bayles; his parents, Mr. an Mrs. William F. Bayles, Powell; a brother, Byron E. Bayles, Akron attorney, and one sister, Mrs. Dorotha Bayles Douglas of West Jefferson. Mrs. Maud M. Leach; Mrs. Maud M. Leach, 72, of 717 Kimball PL., formerly high priestess of Thea Court No. 5, Ladies of the Oreintal Shrine of North America, died in Grant Hospital Friday after a long illness. She also was a member of Corrinthian Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and the Virginia Wright Mothers Guild. Friends may call at the Denton, Donaldson, and Kuhn Funeral Home, where services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Thea Court No. 5 also will conduct services at that time. Burial will be made in Green Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Dorothy Veth Following an extended illness, Mrs. Dorothy Strasser Veth died in White Cross Hospital Saturdya. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and is survived by her hsuband, Carl E. Veth; one son, Pfc. Donald E. Veth, stationed in England; her moth (sic), Mrs. William P. Cavanaugh, Renova, PA, and a sister, Mrs. Allen Jones, Portland, PA. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday at the Schoedinger Co., Chapel, where services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Green Lawn Cemetery. Clarence W. Fredenall Clarence W. Fredenall, 66, associated with the Acme Typewriter Co., 42 W. Gay St., since 1913, died unexpectedly at his home, 394 S. harris Av, Saturday. He leaves a duaghter, MRs. Lucetta Wetterhahn, and two sons, Hugh J. and Edward S. Fredenall, all of Columbus; a borther, Edward S. Fredenall, Amsterdam,N.Y. and six grandchildren. Following services at 2 p.m., Tuesday, in teh Jerry Spears Cahpel, burial will be at Galloway, Ohio. Patrick Sweeney An engineer for the Columbus Die and Tool Co. for 40 years, Patrick Sweeney, 81, died Saturday at St. Anthony's Hospital, where he made his home. Funeral services will be held in Sacred Heart Church at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, with burial at Logan. Freinds may call at the Egan-Ryan Co. Chapel. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Lewis and Mrs. Bessie Butterfield, both of Logan, and one son, Edward G. Sweeney, Zanesville. Mrs. Hilda Huff Columbus friends have been notified that Mrs. Hilda Huff, 36, of 24 N. Wayne Av, wife of Louis A. Huff, telegraph operator for the New York Central Railroad, died Saturday in Willshire, Ohio, at the home of her parents, Rev. adn Mrs. George W. Beck. She was a patient at White Cross Hospital until several weeks ago. Besides her hsuband and parents, Mrs. Huff leaves two daughters, Sarah Marie and Sharon Lee Huff, and two sons, Louis, Jr., and David Allen, 3 months. She was a member of Glenwood Methodist Church andits Players Guild and Woman's Society of Christian Service and Robert Morris Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Reve. Joseph B. Shellhaus, pastor of Glenwood Church, will conduct funeral services at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Willshire Methodist Church. Burial will take place Tuesday at Middletown, Ohio. Albert Nicklaus. Albert Nicklaus, 67, who retired several years ago while a captain in teh Columbus Fire Department, died Monday following a heart attack in Miami, Fla., and was buried there Wednesday, according to word received here. hew as a brother of Mrs. Luch Phelps, 3029 N. High St., and Frank Nicklaus, 42 W. North Broadway, and also leaves his wife, Mrs. Lillian Nicklaus. Mrs. Flora Graham. Mrs. Flora Graham, 84, wife of the late William Graham, Columbus street contractor, died Satruday at her apartment in the Seneca Hotel, after an illness of two weeks. She was a lifelong resident of Columbus and active in affairs of the Home for the Aged. She was a member of Broad St. Methodist Church adn the Senior Board of the Hannah Neil Mission.
