Interesting baba, in Croaitan, is "old woman" or "biddy". The more proper term for Grandmother is baka. Stara baba would be an old woman. However at the turn of the last century cities such as Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago, NYC had much larger communities.... For example Cleveland has 2 Croatian Churches one Roman Catholic the other Byzantine Rite Catholic, and at one time a half dozen lodges. We still have the churches, Lodges are down to about 4, we have the largest Croatian Hall in the US (including a public restaurant inside the hall), a Museum, a large picnic center in the country, 2 soccer fields, and several Croatian restuarants around town.
