Oh, My Gosh, I didn't know that Lazarus closed! Lazarus played a big part of my family life as my mother, grandmother and aunt all worked there. My happiest memories of Lazarus was going 'downstreet' with my grandmother as a little girl. We would ride the streetcar from E. Whittier St to shop at Lazarus. My grandmother, Mom, wore a fox collar which fastened with the fox head and tail. over her suit. She wore gloves to her elbows. Oh, how proud I was to be with her. I wanted people to think she was my mother so I was glad I called her Mom. We took our time looking in all the pretty departments. I especially remember the cosmetic department-don't know why. I don't know what department Mother worked in. We moved to Indiana when I was about 10. From 8th grade through high school I was the best dressed girl in my class. My Aunt Patty worked in Lazarus as a model. She was able to buy the clothes the models wore and the clothes from the mannequins very cheap. Once in awhile my grandfather, who was a conductor on Pennsy RR would bring his big black suitcase full of cloths Patty sent to me from Lazarus. I don't think I will ever be back in Columbus, don't really care now that Lazarus isn't there. Oh, well, I have my memories-no one can take them from me.
