    3. To Whom It May Concern: Death records from 1867 to 1908 are on microfiche at the Ohio Historical Society, also birth records. As the laws were not enforced many births and deaths were not recorded. These records are usually one line listings and provide "bare bones" information. Death Certificates from 1908 to 1944 are on microfilm at the Ohio Historical Society. The Index to these records (1913-1939) is on the OHS web site: http://www.ohiohistory.org. Copies of these death certificates can be requested from OHS for a fee (see details on web site). Due to recent staff reductions you may wait several months to receive your copies. If you want faster service look at the list of researchers for OHS, also on the web site. They will copy death certificates for a fee. OHS has a tremendous newspaper collection for the State of Ohio. Copies of obituaries can also be made by researchers on the list. Death certificates from 1945 to the present are at the Ohio Department of Health. Fee for certified copy is $15 (recent increase). Uncertified copies are no longer provided. There is an index to these death certificates on Ancestry.com (1958 to present). Marriage records were recorded from 1803 (and some even earlier) as part of the county records. Indexes and microfilm copies of the records are at the Ohio Historical Society. Donna M.
