    3. Dear Margaret, My husband's uncle, his dads' twin brother, died. When his family went to the Cemetery to see his newly placed stone they were horrified to find his name spell WRONG. They left it! Our friends stone is gray with a horrible streak on the front, ruining the stone. They kept it. Another friend bought their stone, had it engraved-names, birth dates. When they went to check it, in the Cemetery, she was horrified to see a death date under her husband's name. They insisted it be changed. They did. It was hard to tell where it was repaired. In time that spot disappeared. My 5 great grandfather's death date and age placed him being born AFTER his father's death by several years. I thought it was wrong but Delaware Orphans Index doesn't list him as a minor child survivor. In 1802, he needed a guardian as he was 3 with mother dead. His age of 3 proves he was born 2 years after listed father's death. I know who his guardian was-that's as far as I can get. Still don't know his real father. Sallie

    3. Sallie - The horror stories go on and on. Here in Gallia county, when I searched for my husband's ancestor, I was informed the stones were ground up and put on the road!! When I get discouraged I remember a man who told me people thought he was crazy but he was sure that ancestors helped us find them WHEN THEY were ready for us to find them!! I was sceptical but the older I get the more I suspect he may be right!! Then there's the story of Carol Montrose who searched for her grandpa's stone, and finally just told him to help. And some bird (I can't remember what it was) flew down and landed on his stone!! So who knows? It took me 30 yrs plus to find my immigrant CRIST.
