Dianna, I'm very interested in what you are saying about the Candle name. When some of my family came to Ohio in 1803 via Columbiana County, the Altman's, Miller's and Candles were all in Columbiana County. I have not been able to reconcile the Candle name. Most of the Altman's and Miller's came from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Interestingly, our family has always said the family name is pronounced "CANDLE" and not Kendal, but in the old records I have found it spelled many ways. In Frederick's will it is KENDALL Will of Frederick Kendall of Penn Twp., Berks County, Pennsylvania dated 4 April 1854. Executor, Daniel B. Fisher. Berks County Will Book 10 pg 620 Names daughter Maria or "Polly", wife of Michael Landis and daughter Elizabeth, wife of Obed Miller of Columbus, Ohio. Appoints Daniel B. Fisher of Penn Township executor and inheritor "by due consideration that the said Daniel B. Fisher, his heirs & c. shall and will maintain hold and keep me and my wife during our lifetime with sufficient good lodging, meat, drink, clothes, washing, mending and all necessary attendance during our lifetime and pay all expenses of our funeral.." In church records it is KANDEL From the records of Christ Church, Tulpehocken 1804 Dec 21 Jacob Santer m: Hennah Kendel May 20, 1824 Womelsdorf confirmation for the first time and Holy Supper Maria Landes 19, Catharine Miller 17, Elizabeth Kandel 17, John Kandel 20, Jacob Kandel 19, Rebecca Kandel 17, Esther Kandel 16, Catharine Miller 17. Maria LANDES and Elizabeth KANDEL above are the two daughters of Frederick and Elisabeth. Cemetery records are spelled KENDEL Inscriptions from Bern Church Cemetery located along Highway Route 183. These inscriptions are primarily of German immigrants and their children who were born prior to 1800. These inscriptions were recorded about 1900 and are, for the most part, illegible today. They were contributed by Lt. Col. Oscar H. Stroh. KENDEL, Elizabeth nee SCHARK, wife of Frederick K., b. 1 Dec 1782, d. 15 Sep 1856 KENDEL, Frederick, b. 15 Sep 1779, d. 4 Jan 1860 I thought from these and other church records that the family are Reformed (I am still not positice about what that is, but I think it is Lutheran?) Elisabeth KANDEL married Obed MILLER and their daughter, Sarah MILLER married Jacob KAME. Now the KAME family seem to have been Mennonite from the few records I have been able to find, although they too are found in church records of the Lutheran faith. Obed MILLER said his parents are Thomas & Sarah MILLER. I have not been able to find a thing on them. Obed b: 1 Jun 1801, also has a sister, Margaret b: 8 Jan 1809. Thank you for your input...it is greatly appreciated.
