For all who are interested in St Vincent Orphan Asylum, my father in law found a most interesting article on what life was like at the orphanage. If you had relatives who lived there, here is a taste of what their life was like: "Typically, breakfast was cow brains, lunch was bread and butter, and dinner was stringy beef, pigs ears or pickled herring." Discipline was discussed as well. "Bedwetters were hauled into the yard or onto the floor and forced to stand before the other children with the wet sheet on their heads." You can find this article at: The Columbus Dispatch Name of article: "Orphan Asylum is long gone, but scars take time to heal" Date: April 1, 2001 Pages: C1 and C2 Also, the bad news, we were told that there was a fire in the 1960's that destroyed all the children's records.
