    3. The death certificates for the year 1895 are really death records, one line listings kept by the probate courts in each county in Ohio. The more extensive death certificates became available when the State Department of Health, Department of Health, assumed the task of compiling Birth and Death Records. The marriage records are still available in each county in the Probate Courts. The one line death records do contain information such as the death and place of death and the date and place of birth, along with the cause of death. There is a place for the parents' names, but in many cases this was not included. These death records for Franklin Co. are available at the Ohio Historical Society. The death certificates for all the counties in Ohio are on microfilm at the Ohio Historical Society, 1907-8 to 1944. After that date they can be found at the State Department of Health. The Ohio Historical Society also has a tremendous newspaper collection, where obituaries can be accessed. Donna M.
