As the Granddaughter of a nurse born in the late 1800's, and due to the fact that I was delivered by one of the first, if not THE FIRST woman to graduate from the Ohio State University School of Medicine as a M.D.,Grace Jordan, M.D. I have always known the importance of being an organ donor, and/or anything else that may be needed to save the life of someone's child, parent, sibling, etc. You must make sure that your family is aware of your desire and will not stop your wishes from being carried out. If you do not, your next of kin can object, regardless of anything you have written or said. You can now also donate umbilical cord stem cell blood that can, and is being used to save lives of others with previously fatal diseases every day. Every pregnant mother should know about this and ask for the information on this. This vital stem cell source is being discarded in mass as medical waste every second in this country. We must continue to learn, with compassion and consideration. Our life and what we do with it is what gives our lives meaning and leaves the legacy for future generations. In genealogy we use the dash in between birth and death, make your dash count, future generations depend on it.
Hi Denise, I purchased (in an antique store in Westerville) a newspaper article and photo of Grace Jordan. I also purchased what appears to be some sort of medical journal that belonged to her. I tried posting here and on the JORDAN list to get these items to an ancestor. I would still be more than happy to send these items to family.
