That is a bit of a bummer, I didn't know they'd changed their hours again. Thanks for the tip, Shelley! I'm headed up to Columbus this weekend and thought I might stop by OHS. Oh well. -Amy On Thu, Mar 11, 2010 at 6:20 PM, <shelleykb@aol.com> wrote: > > Norma, > > > I agree you should also plan to visit the Ohio Historical Society, which is > located off I-71 at 17th Ave. exit. Norma, The Columbus Metropolitan Library downtown (3rd floor) is a great place to begin your search. The staff there are very helpful. I agree you should also plan to visit the Ohio Historical Society, which is located off I-71 at 17th Ave. exit. They have county vital records for central Ohio on microfilm. But note that OHS is currently open ONLY on Thursdays, from 9 am-9 pm, so plan accordingly. Just a heads up that the birth dates you are looking for (1861 for Mary and 1832 for William) are before the county kept any kind of birth records. You might need to look for death, cemetery, or church records that might indicate a birth date. Here are links to the catalogs of both facilities: Columbus Metro Library: http://www.columbuslibrary.org/genealogy Ohio Historical Society: http://www.ohiohistory.org/resource/archlib/index.html Best of luck to you! You would also be well advised to schedule time to visit the Ohio Historical Center archives, located just north of the downtown Columbus area. It is a wonderful resource site. Hello List - Briggsdale is part of Franklin Twp., Franklin Co., OH - records will be found that reference those locations. There is no library in that area, however Columbus Metro, downtown Columbus has a wonderful collection that would include that area. HI I'm an Ohioan, but just now I'm in Oregon. I found Briggsdale just south of Columbus. According to the oldish map I have, it appears to be north of 270 and south of I-70 apparently where Harrisburg Pike (n/s road) and Frank Rd (e/w road) cross. I'm from north of Dayton, and know Columbus, but am not at all familiear with Briggsdale. I'd go right to Columbus for what you may be looking for. Or, if there's a library there in Briggsdale, try it. Best of Luck to you. Ambrose T. PINNEY, his wife and sister are in the 1900 census from Onarga, Iroquois, Illinois. And in 1880 there is a listing for A. Todd and Mary F. along with the families of Horace and William T. Pinney. William can be shown to be a son of Horace, but nothing proven about Ambrose other than living in the same township. There is another Ambrose Todd Pinney (1828-1850). He and Horace are step-brothers, both sons of Chester. However with the birth of the sister in March 1870, the older Ambrose also would not be the father of the younger Ambrose. There are several other sons of Chester, none of them well documented that I saw, but perhaps they are possibilities. The sister, Mae C. Phinney, should be in both 1870 and 1880 census listings and nothing found on her in either. Some of the pieces seem to be missing.
