I finally located a family member who was institutionalized that way. She was not buried in the cemetery for the institutionalized but in Green Lawn. When I was searching around on the web for more information about where she had been most of her life I came across Orient, OH as the location of the institution and as I remember now that was Pickaway. There are some good web sites for the cemeteries around Columbus - I'm away from my info right now or I'd give you some URLs but perhaps someone else will chime in with that info. 1. [OHFRANKL] Records on Commitments
    2. Shirley Newbold
    3. We had a similar story, the institution said they didn't have records anymore. What we didn't check is Probate to see if the patient was committed thru court. In our case, we later found a relative who knew the story and found out her husband committed her as I think they could in the early 20th Cent. But you might find something in Probate if you haven't already tried there. It might say why and who was involved. We have figured out that our woman was committed right after having a baby, seems likely it was likely post partom depr. There was another woman, her older sister, who was also "put away" after birthing. She was offered release some few years later and family lore has it that she said, "no, my husband will just get me pregnant again." She already had 5 children. She stayed at the institution and worked there as a waitress. Interesting!! Good luck. 3. Thanks for all that. My understanding is that my Grandmother was committed first to the hospital in Marion, Ohio. It was a private institution. I don't know how long she was there, but was then brought home for a while. After that, she was taken up to Toledo. This was a loooong time ago, but I am hopeful about you suggestion to go to the courts. I will do so right off. I don't know if the hosp in Marion is still existing, but will check it out. THANKS so much. I wish you a lovely Mothers' Day this weekend! 3. Thank You so much. My maternal grandmother was institutionalized from early 1920 til my birth or after in 1941. She was in Toledo. I will certainly be glad to find out how to find and get the records. My Mother was born in 1915 and has now passed and what happened to her Mother was very painful. So Thanks again for the info.
