Margard MARGARD Werner L. Margard, age 78, of Dublin, died Thursday, August 16, 2007, at home. He was a member of Meadow Park Church of God, and faithfully served his Lord as teacher, counselor, and volunteer. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Battelle Memorial Institute as a microbiologist for 38 years. He was a dedicated Boy Scout leader, and received numerous awards for his many years of service to youth. He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Werner L. and Dorothy T. Margard. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joan B. Margard; two sons, Werner "Vern" L. (Katherine) Margard III, Guy Randall Margard; two grandsons, Christian Conrad and James Isaac Margard; sister, Karen (Robert) Reimsnyder; nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. (1/2 mile south of I-270). Near NEAR Randal W. Near, age 86, of Columbus, died peacefully Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Friendship Village of Columbus. Born March 25, 1915 in Westerville to the late Sheldon and Rose Wilson Near. Randal was a graduate of Columbus North High School, Class of 1932. Veteran of WWII and Korean War. Retired Commander, United States Navy Reserve. Randal was graduate of both Capital University and The Ohio State University. He taught Instrumental Music for the Reynoldsburg, New Philadelphia and Columbus City School. He was a past member of the Columbus Symphony and was a professional violinist in the Central Ohio area. Randal is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathryn White Near; daughters: Deborah Near of Columbus and Lise (Doug) Comer, of Lancaster; grandchildren; Lindsay, Christopher and Andrew. He was a long-time member of Northland Kiwanis and the Old North High Club. Charles H. Murray, Commanding Officer, age 57 with a wife, daughter, and mother-in-law also living with him. I believe that a more accurate term for the young men listed as pupils might have been "recruit." I found a Robert W. Hodgson, age 21, born in PA listed at the Ohio Barracks. He is listed with many young males as pupil in the census. The record reads Franklin Co Columbus Charles Murphy(Murray) headmaster. At the time this family member is 21 years. The young men ranged in age from about 17 to 27, Does anyone know of this school? or is it a poor house? Can't find a record. Thanks for any help.
