There children were: Lillian, Edward and Donna. I think that they lived in the West Broad Street area, close to Graham Ford.

Hi, Yes, I do have a city directory for year 1936 but unfortunately it is currently in storage. I have no idea which box it would be in....sorry. Tina

A certain T.W. Algeo (mentioned in my prior e-mail) was apparently involved in a crime against his company. It is mentioned that he was not prosecuted because he was married to the adopted daughter of his employer. I am hoping against hope that there is another T.W. Algeo floating around, because his wife is my great-grandmother, and the news that she is adopted is nowhere mentioned in her otherwise well-worked out family pedigree! Nor was her father the head of any company that I know of. Anyway, I would interested in any Algeo listings, and for whom they worked if at all possible. Joyce, My mother, Dorothy Catherine Kinzig, was in South High School when this was going on. I just wonder how many of the 'boys' she knew. She was a Champion Back Stroker in Swimming. My brother has her 'letter'. When her 50th year came around we wanted her to go but she decided not to. We lived in Indiana. Sure wish she would have. She was 16 in 1927 so she must have graduated 28-29. She must has destroyed her year book as I couldn't find it after she and dad died. Thanks for the memories, Sallie
Hi, I got your email address to keep you in the loop, but I must be confused because I can not remember why. Could you refresh my memory? Thanks, Tina
I have heard that there were some births recorded earlier than 1867, but I have not found one yet in my research. All counties were required to start recording births in 1867 and it was the counties responsibility until Dec.19, 1908. These birth records were not recorded when the event occured, as they are today, but were reported once a year, usually around March/April/May. Therefore you will probably not find birth records for people born in 1908 between the last report done by the county and Dec. 20, 1908 when the state took over (the same thing happened with Death records). I have seen some counties that have records to 1909 which helps to cover this gap. Not all births were recorded. There are several people I have looked for, knowing they were born in that time period, that I could not find (even tried neighboring counties). I have seen early records where only the child's last name was given or no name was entered at all. This improved as the years progressed and probably the number of births recorded as well. Each entry is on one long line covering two pages in a ledger style book, so it is not like a certificate. There are fields for the name of the child, full date of birth, place born (state, county, and city, town or township), sex of the child, race, name of father, maiden name of mother, residence of the parents, and who reported the birth. Sometimes not all of the fields have information. Sometimes you do not get the maiden name of the mother. The Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah has many of the Ohio counties birth records 1867-1908 on microfilm. These are the film numbers for Franklin Co.: Birth index, v. A-Z 1867-1908 FHL US/CAN Film 285134 Birth records, v. 1-3 1867-1886 FHL US/CAN Film 285135 Birth records, v. 4-6 1885-1897 FHL US/CAN Film 285136 Birth records, v. 7-10 1897-1907 FHL US/CAN Film 285137 If there is a Family History Center near you, you can get a roll of microfilm from the Family History Library for about six weeks for a charge of about $3.50. The FHC near me has a photocopy machine for microfilm and microfiche and they charge $0.25 per page for copies, but I have been told that not all Family History Centers have the same equipment. Film # 285134, Volumes 1-3 (1867-1886) of the Franklin Co., Ohio Births, has been extracted (volunteers went through the roll copying the information) and can be searched at: http://www.familysearch.org/ On the home page you will see 4 tabs labeled "Home", "Search", "Share" and "Library" If you click on "Library" you can find out where Family History Centers are located. You can also look at the Family History Library Catalog to see what other materials they have (tip - when you put in a county name, do not include the word 'County' or 'Co.' and do not abbreviate the state name). To search for the Franklin Co., Ohio extracted births - Click on "Search" On the left is a list of the things that can be searched. To look only at what has been exracted, click on "International Genealogical Index" You can enter a first and last name, or if you are looking for several births with the same last name, just put in a last name. In the box labeled "Region" select North America. In the "Batch Number" box put one of the following: C513354 for years 1867-1873 C513355 for years 1874-1878 C513356 for years 1878-1882 C513357 for years 1883-1886 Do not select "Use exact spelling" Click on "Search" In the results you can click on an underlined name to get the parents names. Unfortunately it does not give you the Volume and page number information, but you will know a record was made. If you are curious about other records that have been extracted, see this website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#Page I have the four above mentioned microfilm rolls for Franklin Co., Ohio Births on indefinite loan at the FHC near me. I am willing to do lookups. I do not consider a surname extraction a lookup. Volume 1 is a pain to go through because you can't read most of the page numbers. In addition they refilmed several of the pages, trying to get a better picture I guess, so you can't even crank the handle slowly and count the pages. Nov 11, 1927 Columbus Citizen DRIVE RENEWED FOR CITY WATER Campaign Resumed After Two Children Die In South-Side Fire Residents in Marion tp, south of the Columbus city limits, Friday were preparing a new campaign to get water and sewer lines for their district. As campaign material they are pointing to the tragic death of two small children of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin SWEAZY, Dexter rd, who burned to death in a blazing home when firemen, with no water available were powerless to aid. The children were Norma Jean SWEAZY, five months old, and Melvin SWEAZY Jr., 16 months. Gardeners Protest W.M. HILLMYER, manager of the Diem & Wing Paper Co., who lives in Terrace av, near Dexter rd, said he will renew the campaign for water lines and sewers, rejected by county commissioners for the last five years. M.K. BOWMAN, assistant county sanitary engineer, said that the protests of gardeners in the vicinity were sufficient to warrant rejection of property owners' petitions for water. Nov 11, 1927 Columbus Citizen WOMAN NABS AUTO DRIVER Holds Him By Coat Tail For Police After Her Machine Is Tipped Over In Crash A man was held on a charge of driving while intoxicated at City Prison Friday because a woman whose car he crashed into made him await the coming of police against his will. The man is George M. GLASS, 39, of 1334 1/2 N High st. The woman is Mrs. W.S. McGEE, 793 Neil av. "I was driving slowly up Marshall av, when the man's car, coming out of Delaware av, struck my maching in the rear and turned it over," Mrs. McGEE related Friday. Grabbed His Coat "Bystanders helped me get out from under the car. I called to the man who was driving the other car and told him to wait. I then call to a neighbor to call police. "The man started to walk away. "I grabbed him by his coat and said: 'Wait a minute.' "I pulled him back. Then he tried to trip me. "I pushed him over and he fell. " 'Don't get funny with a wild woman for I'm plenty wild now,' " I told him. "So he stayed there until police came. "I didn't strike him." Article from the Nov 11, 1927 COLUMBUS CITIZEN HIGH TITLE AT STAKE IN GAME South and North Clash Today Expected to Decide City Grid Championship South and North Hi School football teams were set for their championship battle at South Field at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Both teams have won all of their league games to date, and have established themselves as the two outstanding teams in the league. Their battle will virtually decide the title, altho each has another game to play after Friday's contest. South meets Central at South on Nov 20 and North takes on East at North Stadium on Thanksgiving Day. Field In Fair Shape While Thursday night's rain forecast a soggy field for the contest, the gridiron was expected to be in fair condition due to its quick draining facilities. With the addition of extra bleachers obtained from the Aquinas Hi Athletic Association, the seating capacity of South Field has been raised to accommodate 5000 fans, and the ticket sale gives indication that this figure will be surpassed easily. Unless it is raining at game time, a crowd of 7000 fans is expected. The line-up: NORTH SOUTH HAUBRICH, c 37 L.E. MIEULISNICH 13 ALLEN 31 L.T. AUSTIN 21 CRIHFIELD, c 44 L.G.
