Hi Dorene, Found in Franklin Co., Ohio Marriage Index by males, Vol. 1 1803-1897 (FHL film # 0285138): 1892 Shimp, John E. & M.J. Rone, Marriage Vol. 22, p. ?521? (There was tape over the page number). Did not find Mary Jane Shimp in the Franklin Co., Ohio Death Index 1899-1908 (FHL film # 0285205). It seems that not all of the deaths were recorded between 1867 and 1908. I have on occasion found errors in the indexes however. If someone finds a cemetery record for her, I will check the actual death records. Linda Dorene89@aol.com writes: > I am looking for information on Mary Jane Roan Shimp. Hello list: Would someone be able to look up an obit in COlumbus Dispatch? Dwight Garth Roop's obit is supposed to be in March 11, 1990 edition, page 9B. Also if someone has access to Franklin Co Cemetery books, would you mind checking to see if he is buried anywhere there? He is a mystery man! Thanks so much Karin King

Then I tried the Franklin Co., Ohio Marriage Index by males, Vol. 1 1803-1897 (FHL film # 0285138) and was able to get the complete line of information: 1879 McCollam, Samuel & Fray Hedrick, Marriage Vol. 15, p. 189. Found S. McCollam & Fray in Royalton, Fairfield Co. in 1880. I also looked through the Rhoads/Rhodes/Roads from 1870-1880 in the index by males and did not find a Marion F. The first names found were Reuben, R.J., George, N.C., R.L., W.S., John B., and Theodore. Hope this helps, Linda

They married in 1841 in Franklin Co. Henry was a successful farmer in Jackson Twp. In 1850 they had John (from his first marriage) Louis; Lorenzo; Joseph; Henry; Mary; George; and later, Sarah born after 1850. By 1860 there is no sign of Henry and Catherine. Little Sarah is age 9 and living with older brother John. Louis is working as a farm laborer and no sign of the others. It seems strange that the Hoffman's disappeared so quickly. There is no mention of them in the Jackson Twp Cemeteries. Can anyone help?
Does anyone know why a widower whose wife died approximately 1 yr prior to him would have left a 71 year old woman a dower of land? Was he intending to marry her prior to his forth coming death? Any speculation welcome. Joan

I had indeed found her husband was Alscinous CLARK. Based on census data I believe he died between 1860 and 1870. The last I've found about Hester was in Emporia Kansas in 1880. Do you know if she remarried or where she died? Her son Franklin Monroe CLARK moved on to Nebraska and Iowa after they left Kansas, but I've never found any record of Hester there.
