    1. Ralph possibiliy in 1920
    2. Dorene, Here is a possibility for Ralph in 1920. He is the last man listed at the very bottom of this census. Akron City, Summit County, OH the age is approximate. Of course when I click on next page ancestry.com say that image is missing. Ralph is listed as head of household but no idea who is living with him. If you can somehow have someone else maybe at a library or LDS center try the second page maybe his mother is living with him. In 1920 the only way Mary/Jennie would be indexed under her own name is when say she would be living with a daughter with a different married name. See? Since it is a city you could try to find an Akron City Directory for this time period to see who is living with this Ralph. Lindsey ion Census Image What to do next? 2. In 1910 Arthur and Ralph were in Marion Twp. in the County Infirmary, ages given as 11 and 9. Yes, Mary Jane and John E. Shimp could have divorced. I have infromation that one of the couples I am working on, Michael and Ruth (Butler) Mason, divorced in 1865 in Franklin Co. 2. Dear Listers: I want to first thank everyone for such wonderful help. Yes, I have located John E. Shimp's death records and grave, thanks Sandy. As for Mary Jane/Jennie Shimp, I am still searching. I have checked the ohiohistory.org site (1913-1937) and found Marie Shimp who died in 1926 but do not believe her to be the same. I would like to see the 1910 & the 1920 Census of Franklin County to determine if Mary Jane/Jennie was still living and where and with whom. You see in 1910 John and Mary's oldest daughter Clara Bell Shimp was in the Girls Industrial School in Delaware County. With John and Jennie in Columbus with two young daughters, what happen to Arthur Edward Shimp, age 13 and Ralph C. Shimp, age 10? In 1920, John E. Shimp is supposed to have married a Florence Rowe. Clara Belle was married to Thomas Payne; Arthur Edward was married to his second wife, my grandmother; Ralph C. location unknown; Stella might have married a Getz by then, age 16; and Rachel Margaret was only 12 and likely still at home. John E. is then supposed to have married a woman named Lillian M. Chisler in 1926. Did Florence die or did they divorce? Was divorce possible in the 1920s? If Florence died where did she die and where is she buried? And if all these women died before John E. Shimp, why was he buried in a pauper grave instead of beside one of these wives? I welcome any and all help, suggestions, and comments because frankly every answer I get seems to add another question. Sincerely, Dorene

    1. Shimp death certificate
    2. SHIMP MARIE County Name: FRANKLIN Date of Death: 1/9/1926 Volume Number: 4931 Certificate Number: 2205 My advice to you is try to obtain the obit for this woman to make sure the name is really Marie and not mary. My ancestor was Jacob W. Trout and he was indexed on the OHS site as Joseph W. Trout as he died in the county home and his certificate was filled out by someone else and obviously got the name wrong. Took me months to straighten out and determine the other name did not exist and the error turned out to be in my favor and it was my person all along. Good luck, Lindsey

Did you obtain his death cert. for last of kin info, and request his obit to determine if he died first or her?

    1. Re: death lookup request
    2. Hi Dorene, I see in my notes that when I did a Franklin Co. marriage look-up for you regarding John E. Shimp and Mary Jane Roan, I also tried the Franklin Co. Death index 1899-1908 and did not find her. So, I don't have to do that again. I do have the Ohio Death Indexes that I can try. I took a look at the 1900 and 1910 Census records for John Shimp and family. On the 1900 Census John E. and Mary J. said they had been married for 7 years, and Mary J. said that she had given birth to 4 children and 3 children were living. On the 1910 Census John and Jennie said that each of them had been married only once, and they had been married to each other for 18 years. Jennie said she had given birth to 5 chidren and 5 children were living. It is my guess that Mary J. and Jennie are one and the same. Since John E. Shimp was from Liberty Twp., Fairfield Co. I checked my Liberty Twp. Cemetery Book. Also tried my Violet Twp. and Bloom Twp. (both Fairfield Co.) Cemetery books. No John E. and/or Mary Jane/Jennie Shimp. Have you asked for a look-up in the Madison Township Cemetery book? If they lost a child while living in Madison Twp., they may have purchased a plot there. However, I have the feeling they didn't have much money so they may not have tombstones to read. A friend and I did a 50/50 purchase with our Orange Co. California Genealogical Society of the 11 volume Franklin Co. Cemetery set, but they stay at the Huntington Beach Main Library. I bet someone on the Franklin Co. Mailing list has a copy of Madison Twp. (Vol 2 in the set, but you didn't have to purchase the whole set) at home. If you do ask for a look-up, ask if there are any Roan/Rhone in the index also. 1. Re: [OHFranklin] Re: death lookup request
    2. Sounds like quite a bit of duplication on Shimp look ups. Linda & Doreen, I checked both computer search and microfiche search over a month ago; and found and photographed John's stone at Walnut Grove Cemetery, when I got the obits. Doreen did you not have any luck there in Mansfield at The Ohio Genealogy Society. Forgot to ask you that the last time we talked. Sandy
