For instance, OHS has the rosters for the War of 1812 online at: http://www.ohiohistory.org/resource/database/rosters.html I'd be thrilled to get additional suggestions for online Ohio military research, too, as I'd like to add them to the Ohio ALHN military page. 3. This is a good site if you have the name, state, regiment, etc. I have used it several times. You can put in entire name or just a last name, state, etc. very easy to use. Remember there is sometime several soldiers with the same name which makes it interesting. :) http://www.civilwar.nps.gov/cwss/ Marjorie L. 1. Please please help with death certificate
    2. The Rawles Family
    3. Dear List members, I am in desperate need of your help! I have a once in a life time chance to visit Dayton, Ohio (I live Nevada) in three weeks. And I would really like to visit my ancestors' graves while there. But I CAN'T find her grave. I've called all the cemeteries, no luck. I've searched the census records. I've sent for death certificates. (The wrong ones). (Beacause I believed she had died in Montgomery Co. where all the family lived) But now I'm running out of time! Family records were lost in a fire so I have no family records of her death. According to the story grandma told, Louise died while employed by Govenor James M. Cox (whos hometown in Dayton.) My grandma has passed away so I cannot ask her any questions. But now I'm thinking the Governor's family could have been in Columbus when she died. In the Ohio Historical Societies on-line records I found this record HOFFMAN LOUISE County Name: FRANKLIN Date of Death: 2/21/1919 Volume Number: 2897 Certificate Number: 10613 Which could be her, but I have no way of knowing unless I send for the record. The other death certifiacates I sent for took about 3 months to arrive. Which will be too late!!! Is there anyone on this list who lives near the Ohio Historical Archives that would be able to go there for me to check this record? I would be happy to pay any and all expenses. I really really really need your help, please! This is what I know about her: She was born Louise Eugenie Blind April 26, 1845 in Strasbourg, France. She came to America March of 1907. In 1910 she was a governess in Dayton Ohio for the Stoddards. She became governess for for the children of Ohio’s Governor James M. Cox. While he was Governor, the Democrats nominated Cox as their presidential candidate. Family stories say that during the campaign my great grandmother Louise Hoffman became ill and died. That would put her death in 1920. But I'm not sure how accurate this story is. I would appreciate any and all help that you are able to give. Thank you so very much! Sincerely, Linda Rawles
