I found this in the 1930 US Census in Minneapolis, Minn: Weinmann, Frank B (head) Weinmann, Delia M (wife) Smith, Louise W (daughter) Smith, Jerome F (grandson) Smith, Charles R (grandson) That Jerome was 15 at the time of the census, which would be about right, and given the fact that he's living with Weinmanns, I'm betting that's the one you're looking for. Unfortunately, I didn't see anyone with the same birthdate in the Minnesota Death Index (1908-2002) that Ancestry has. I'm not familiar with the resource so I don't know how complete it would be, but you might check on a Minneapolis (Hennepin County) board and they might be able to help from here. I did see a Jerome F. Smith in the Ohio Death Index that died Dec 15, 1972 at the age of 58, which would put his birth in 1914. Volume 21115, Certificate 094538. Died in Worthington, Franklin County, Ohio. If you have good reason to believe he came from Ohio, that might be your guy. The index doesn't have any more information other than he was white and married. Oh, and guess what. If it's the same guy, this one has an obituary in the Columbus Dispatch, 12/17/1972, page 28B! I do regular obituary look-ups every Wednesday night at the Columbus library. I'll look this up for you on Wednesday unless someone else gets to it first. Hopefully that will be your guy!

You are awesome! Yes, I do have my work cut-out for me, but it's because I have the wrong Smith. Mine has a mother's maiden name of Weinmann. I searched for this Smith based on his residence found in Mom's 1964 obit. I have another Jerome in SSDI, born 28 Oct 1914, with SS# issued in MN (makes more sense because he was born there) but NO last residence indexed. Do you know how to access this info? P.S. He was military too.

Hello, I do apologize for the off topic question but wanted to know when beggars night starts this evening and ends. Any help is appreciated. jamie
In the 1860 census for the Ohio Penitentiary in Franklin County, there is a William Scott listed for burglary, age 48, born in Pennsylvania, laborer. I have been looking for a g-g-uncle who disappeared from his family in Zanesville in the 1850's. Are there more available records about prisoners in the 1860's and where and how could I find more information about this particular William Scott? Thanks for any assistance. Nicky

Any info about James Walcutt and wife Mary Williams? Larry
If you go to the Columbus Metropolitan Library website you can run an obit search and they will email it to you if you are a member/resident of Ohio. More information on this can be found by searching/browsing in the Franklin County list archives. ----- Original Message ----- From: <kstewartgoodrich@hotmail.com> To: <OHFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 26, 2004 5:55 PM Subject: [OHFranklin] need Columbus obit > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/yYB.2ACI/15166 > > Message Board Post: > > I need an obit look-up for Jerome Smith d. 28 Feb. 1994. House Resolution 10 (H.R. 10), which seeks to restrict access to birth certificates. I received a reply from House of Representatives David Hobson 7th District, Ohio in which he said that the House passed HR 10 Oct 8th with a vote of 282 to 134 and that the Senate passed their version of the 9/11 Recomendations Implementations Act, S. 2845 on Oct 6th with a vote of 96-2. There are vast differences between these two bills which will have to be resolved in a House, Senate Conference Committee. It is expected that Congress will vote on a final version of this act when it reconvenes in November after the election. I urge everyone to protect your constitutional freedoms as well as public records access and pass this on to the other lists and contact (and keep contacting them) your representatives voicing your concerns/opposition on restricting our family research capabilities to birth records and who knows what else !!!! We need to get this information out to the public. This was posted on Ancestry Daily News. You can find it online at www.ancestry.com/dailynews Issue: October 7, 2004 Thanks, Sharon Pike Sharon@MeriwetherSociety.org Immediate Action Requested Legislation in Congress Seeks to Restrict Access to Birth Records; FGS Recommends Writing to Your Congressional Representatives The U.S. House of Representatives is considering a bill, House Resolution 10 (H.R. 10), which seeks to restrict access to birth certificates. This bill, which purpose is to respond to the threat of terrorism, is on a fast track to passage and has been voted on by several committees already. Your help is needed now. David Rencher, Chairman of the Record Access and Preservation Committee, a joint committee of the National Genealogical Society and Federation of Genealogical Societies, has sent a letter to the bill's sponsor, Congressman Dennis Hastert, recommending an amendment to the bill as follows: "However, nothing in this Chapter 2 shall be construed to require a State to change its law with respect to public access to (A) non-certified copies of birth certificates, or to (B) birth certificates or birth records once a period of 100 years has elapsed from the date of creation of the certificate or record." A copy of the letter is available on the FGS site at www.fgs.org/rpa/formalactions.htm. To view this bill, go to http://thomas.loc.gov. Enter HR 10 in the search box for "Bill Number." Action Is Needed Now Because this bill is moving toward passage so quickly, it is urged that the genealogical community take action immediately and let their representatives know that they are in support of David Rencher's amendment and the FGS position in this important matter. To find your state representative's contact information, go to www.house.gov/writerep/. How Should I Word My Letter? While you should word the letter in any way that is comfortable for you, it is recommended that you include the following as a portion of the letter: "While I support the intention to increase security to protect the U.S. from terrorists and those who wish to improperly take U.S. identities, I am concerned that those researching their family's history continue to have access to non-certified birth records. Therefore, in order to support HR-10 I ask that you amend HR-10 Section 3063(d)(2) by adding the following wording to the existing paragraph: 'However, nothing in this Chapter 2 shall be construed to require a State to change its law with respect to public access to (A) non-certified copies of birth certificates or to (B) birth certificates or birth records once a period of 100 years has elapsed from the date of creation of the certificate or record.' I believe that this additional language is imperative so that the states do not react by restricting all certificates to comply with the law, rather than dealing with certified as opposed to non-certified birth certificates. This proposed amendatory language would remind them that they can and should be treated differently."
