    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: mkmarlow Surnames: DUFF, MOLER, TIMMONS, PATTERSON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.franklin/3167.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I saw your post about Jane Moler, married to Wm. Duff in Pleasant Twp, Franklin Co., OH. You said that you have extensive information about the Duffs in that area and am hoping that you can help break down my brick wall. I am especially looking for the parents, but any information you might have about James Madison DUFF born about 1857. He is first found in the 1860 census in the above location - near Harrisburg - at age 3, living with Sarah Timmons, age 47, and family: Madison 22, Emily 17, Elizabeth J. 16, and Zachariah T. age 13. The only connection of Duff's and Timmons I can find is a marriage between Elizabeth J. Timmons and Wm. C. Duff 23 Feb 1862 in Franklin Co., OH (source: Franklin Co, OH Probate Court, Marriage records). The 1870 Federal Census has him living in McArthur Twp, Logan Co., OH - near Huntsville, living with K. T. Patterson, age 36 and his wife Maggie, age 26. Do you know of any connections to your DUFFs or any of the families he was living with? Any help is greatly appreciated. Author: LeonaLGustafson Surnames: Gilmore Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.franklin/18263.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Generally speaking, for various reasons and at various times in the late 19th century the old graveyards/cemeteries in Columbus were closed and most remains removed to Green Lawn Cemetery. (The exceptions were the Jewish and Catholic cemeteries which, though closed, the remains were moved to newer Jewish and Catholic cemeteries.) The Franklinton Cemetery was the first in Franklin County and many of the remains of those buried there were removed to Green Lawn Cemetery. I was unable to find any information about Sally Davidson Gilmore. Here is what I did find. Source: Donald M. Schlegel, THE COLUMBUS CITY GRAVEYARDS (Columbus History Service, Columbus, OH 1985), page 107 (Mr. Schlegel's reference for the information is Alfred E. Lee, HISTORY OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS (1892), 2:722): GILMORE, James Native of Rockbridge Co., Va., died Oct. 10, 1817, aged 61y; tombstone at Franklinton; Sunday Herald, May 2, 1886. - Lee, II/722 GILMORE, Mary Wife of James Gilmore 2d., died June 17, 1818 aged 28y; tombstone at Franklinton; Sunday Herald May 2, 1886. - Lee, II/722 My guess is that the reference to the tombstones and the Sunday Herald are Mr. Lee's sources. 3. RE Eastlawn Cemetery About 10 years ago I visited Eastlawn on a trip to Columbus. If my memory serves, the caretakers did not have any of the records copied, we looked at the original records, some from ealy 1900's. They were mixed up and in very poor condition. I wonder if LDS has copied them since that time. Good luck in your search. 3. I don't know how far back probate court records go but they might be there in the domestic relations division. I have found records as far back as 1920 in Franklin Co. Don't be afraid to call them and ask. You'll get best results by calling ahead and getting a contact person to send the request to at the court. Phone number is available online via a web search.
