I have a copy of Arthur's obituary, which lists his survivors, including "his mother, Mrs. Minnie Price." The funeral record from Cook & Son Funeral Home does have her maiden name as Weethee. Interesting to consider a divorce in 1906 or so, especially when one considers the timing between Arthur's birth and Her marriage to David Wallace. Would you mind pointing me to the census records you've located, especially the ones directly pertaining to Charles or Arthur Garrison? Thanks for your information! Hi, All of the emails about the Children's Home have been so interesting. My question is different from the ones on the Children's Home. I see you work for the Children's Services. Is there any way to get a 'roster's of names of Welfare Office workers? I understand my aunt was head of the Franklin County Welfare Office maybe in 1960-1970's. I am not sure of the years she worked but I do remember hearing of her work. I would like to find when she was employed there, if possible, for my Genealogy Records. Let me get started on Monday and Tuesday. Surely we have photos and stories around. At our agency, most retire after thirty years. I will see if any of the "old timers" remember anything. I spent a short time at the Gantz Rd. facility in the late 60's. Relatively a newbe I know, but it was a different world from what we use now. (I was fifteen at the time). I am so excited about your project. Terri P.S. on a different note; In my genealogy research I have learned that many of my people ended up in the "children's home" due to parents being killed, single parents working and not having child care, etc. I am sure you are finding out much about the realities of our history. > From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Date: Sat, 8 Mar 2008 14:11:12 -0500> Subject: Re: [OHFRANKL] Franklin County Children's Home> > Hello Teresa,> > The reason I am doing it is because I noticed there was next to nothing> available about the FCCH and it was such a beautiful building and touched> many lives by getting homeless children off the streets and later removing> neglected and abused children from bad homes. > > I want to collect as much info as possible and put into a book form, hard> copy and CD Rom to donate to area historic preservation societies, Metro> Library etc. and available to anyone who wants a copy. Hello Teresa, The reason I am doing it is because I noticed there was next to nothing available about the FCCH and it was such a beautiful building and touched many lives by getting homeless children off the streets and later removing neglected and abused children from bad homes. I want to collect as much info as possible and put into a book form, hard copy and CD Rom to donate to area historic preservation societies, Metro Library etc. and available to anyone who wants a copy. I am mainly interested in first hand accounts of life there, work there, interior pictures, daily activities, how the children lived, what mealtime was like, recreation, etc. Not sure about listing names or anything as far as copyright or privacy goes, but I could ask. Contributors will be thanked in the publication and it will be copyrighted to allow not for profit copies only so we don't see it on e-Bay someday. Grin (We recently finished the Limerick Cemetery, Jackson Co, OH) This all may be a pipe dream because FCCH was torn down over a half century ago, but I am going to try. Do you know if any of those employees came to the new location on Gantz and if any are still around? Thanks, Teresa! It was good to get a reply to that query. Based on the 1900 census Minnie married Charles Garrison about 1899. Minnie's maiden name was Weethee. I'm sure they married under her maiden name. They had a daughter Ida, born about May of 1900; sons, Charles born about 1902; William, born 31 Jan 1903; and Arthur Foster, born about 1906. Minnie and Charles were divorced, according to the 1910 census. In about 1907, she married David King Wallace. They had Richard, born about 1908; and David Daniel. David King Wallace died 24 Feb 1941. Minnie and David are buried in Green Lawn cemetery here in Columbus. I have seen their graves. Her tombstone says "Minnie Wallace". I know that sometime after 1941 she either married or lived with Louis Oscar Price. Her obituary refers to her as "Minnie A. Price." I have looked, but never have found a record of their having married in Franklin county. Oscar died on 16 Jan 1965, and is buried in Union cemetery in Columbus with his first wife "M! ary Lou", nee Hamilton. I have never looked for marriage records for Minnie with Charles Garrison or David Wallace. I got the approximate dates of those marriages from census records. Sometime when I am at the OHS archives I can try and see if those marriages occurred in Franklin county. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Maybe Laura was her middle name and went by that instead of her given name. How old was she? What were some of the siblings names? This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ravensbeak Surnames: Garrison, Wallace, Price Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.franklin/216.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Howdy Mark, I've been researching Arthur Garrison off and on for a while. Arthur was my mother-in-law's (Linda Garrison) father. I've seen your post on Ancestry about Minnie Wallace, but didn't think that was my Minnie, but now it seems it may be. I'd be really curious to check out the marriage records in Franklin County now! It sounds like Minnie had three husbands. She was a Price when she married Arthur Garrison, but he died in 1967, and after Arthur, she became a Wallace, but died only 3 years after Arthur. The Shroyer Funeral Home is now called Rutherford-Shroyer, owned by Rutherford Funeral Home; they have 4 other chapels in Columbus. I work in the funeral industry, so I might stop by to see what records the funeral home has. Feel free to contact me at bobmueller at ravensbeak dot com about this. I'd like to see what other information you have. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thank you Maureen, don`t make a special trip. And what paper would you look in. Hi Tootsie, I don't have much at all. Just two items I found when I Googled the FCCH (see below) and several copies of photographs I got at Metro Library. Do you have any photographs or stories you can share? I am collecting the information to compile into a book to donate to the library and other historic preservation societies. There is so little info on this important building that touched so many lives and it was a beautiful structure and should not be forgotten. Thanks, Tootsie! Either they rebuilt or it was an error.) http://members.aol.com/redwing386/franklin.htm (The email address is no longer valid in this link but there is some interesting historic information. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tootsie Sent: Friday, March 07, 2008 8:36 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [OHFRANKL] Franklin County Children's Home My mother's 6 sisters were put there abt. 1908 and would you have any information from that time period? I can try to check the newspapers when I get back to the main library next weekend--assuming the blizzard this weekend doesn't snow us in for a week!
