    1. [OHFRANKL] Great Flood of 1913
    2. shell
    3. Almost the whole half of the state was underwater. From Toledo to Cincinnati to as far east as Columbus. What I have been looking for is a list of the 320 people that died state wide from this flood. We are looking for John P. Wildermuth who supposedly died in Cincinnati due to the flood. This is what his son was told growing up, but as a child I was told that he left his wife and son in Jackson twp., Auglaize County, Geyer, Ohio and left for Oklahoma. He would only return 3 times after he left Ohio. Once for his fathers funeral, once for his mothers funeral, the 3rd time I have no clue. He supposedly was a deputy sheriff in Yale, Oklahoma, but have not found any sources for that and married an Indian and had 3 more children, but changed his name when he moved to John P. Smith. Which we found in a 1930 census. Emailed the Hayes Library in Cincinnati, they had no list of deaths from that tradegy. He supposedly died in Yale, Oklahoma on Dec. 19, 1956 and was born on Dec. 3, 1882 in Franklin Twp., in Sidney, Ohio. Thanks for any help on this one, we haven't been able to find much.

It is located west of downtown. It is only maybe three blocks from the Sciota River and Central H.S.. A lot of the buildings were destroyed due to a flood that hit that area, I can't remember what the date of that was. It was a terrible flood, lots of damage from it. Particularly hard hit were Columbus (95-100 dead) and Dayton (123 dead). It was caused by a combination of melting snow and ice and unprecedented rainfall in a very short time. More than 50 of the Columbus victims were buried at Green Lawn Cemetery. I just this week uploaded gravestone photos of all the victims who had stones at Green Lawn. In several instances very young children were buried with in the same grave with their mothers. I'm hoping to locate the graves of all the Columbus victims. If you're interested in reading more about the flood just Google "1913 Columbus Flood" There are several good sites with information and pictures. One of the best is http://www.ohiohistory.org/etcetera/exhibits/swio/pages/content/1913_flood.htm - - it even has a video of some of the flood along with photos. I did find out that he had a brother of which I cant find information on his brother either. His name was clyde. (this info was cut and pasted - taken from world connect) According to William's social security application, dated June 14, 1937, he was born March 4, 1910 in Fort Gaines, Clay County, Georgia. His parents were listed as Jule Johnson and Mary Morris. Jule/Jewell, Mary and William were not listed in the 1910 or 1920 census for Clay County, Georgia. According to William's death certificate, he was born January 9, 1910 in Macon, Georgia (Bibb County). Jule/Jewell, Mary and William were not listed in the 1910 or 1920 census for Bibb County, Georgia. William's marriage record, dated February 9, 1933, stated that prior to marrying Lucy he was living at 263 McDowell St. in 1933. It also stated that his father's name was Jewell Johnson and his mother was unknown. The Columbus City Directory was checked to determine when he moved to Columbus. He was not listed from 1927-1933. But there are city directories for Columbus at the library. Ask some by subject line for "city directory lookup" give them the information of name, dates, etc., and maybe they can narrow down what year he first appeared. I'm sure you probably checked the census records. I have some very early ones that say if a person was a boarder or family member. As I said I don't know much about geneology. I did ask my oldest brother if he remembered anyone who lived on McDowell St--He didn't. He would have only been 6 or 7 then. Sorry I couldn't be helpful, I wish you well in your search. I know very little about my grandfather before 1933. From his marriage record it said he lived at 263 McDowell St before he married my grandmother. But there is nothing in the columbus city directory prior to the marriage. I was trying to find out when he moved from Fort Gains GA to Columbus, OH. There is nothing stating that he lived at 263 McDowell except on his marriage record. I can't fine anything. So I went to the court house and found who owned the property and that was no help. Look at the last census you found him (for location) and use that to determine what church he might have been at. Church records are really great and will record deaths, moves, births....... I misunderstood...I thought you were looking for the Johnson family who are related to me. I finally realized your're looking for who lived at the address and I thought he was a relative of ours which he may have been but everyone that's still alive dosen't remember a William E.Johnson. I'm very new to this geneology thing. From what I know about my grandparent--they had several properties and rented them. They lost most of those properties with the depression and probably about the time frame your searching. Often times, in those days, I'm sure you know, people took in boarders. I would imagine that your grandfather either rented or he was a boarder there. If you know of anyway I could search my grandparents records to find your family-let me know. I would be glad to check it for you. Miriam Higgins Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He dosen't remember anyone living on McDowell St. but he did say our Grandparents Katie and Micheal Cahill owned some properties on Rich St, and McDowell St. He did remember an Aunt Mariah (grandfather's sister)whose married name was Johnson but wasn't sure of her husband's first name. He thought it was Charles and they lived near Sandusky and Town St. He said they had an only son Charles who was about 5 years younger than Don. This is where it is strange. He thought Charlie married a women with the maiden name of Johnson. Her first name was Mary and they had a son (Charles) and 2 daughters. I then called my sister Barbara Cahill Trout (age 70) and she remembers Charles and Mary living near us on Rich St. She said Mary was very beautiful, very nice and Barbara loved to go visit them. Also, she said she went to school and played with Charlie and Mary's daughtrs Patty and Mary Lou Johnson She also remembers their brothers Charlie and Jim. Charlie was ahead of me at Holy Family by 2 years (I graduated in 1962) and Jimmy was a friend of my brother Dan Cahill. Barbara did ask me if you were in contact with Mary Lou or Patty, She would love to contact or talk with them. I'm not sure if this is of any help, but it's all I could find out.
