Author: r_a_green Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.franklin/18535/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Geo. W. Hawes' Ohio State Gazetteer and Business Directory for 1860-61 1860, Second Edition, 918 pages George W. Hawes, Indianapolis, Indiana This is a digitally reproduced Second Edition version of Geo. W. Hawes' Ohio State Gazetteer and Business Directory for 1860-61. Historians, genealogists and researchers of mid 19th century Ohio will find the vast amount of related research material in this book on CD invaluable. The extensive 918 pages contain the description of hundreds of places and place names including: cities, towns, villages and post offices of the State of Ohio. The list is simply too large to enumerate here and includes virtually all places both big and small found in 1860 Ohio. The Ohio State Gazetteer... contains hundreds of advertisements by contributing businesses providing historical insight into the goods and services available during this period. Also included on this CD are mid 19th century maps of Ohio including State and township maps, transportation surveys depicting many places and place names along Ohio railroad routes, as well as, a detailed plat map of the City of Cincinnati in 1838. While these maps are not part of the original Ohio State Gazetteer..., researchers interested in place names will find the cartographic information useful for identifying the location of early Ohio settlements. Mid 19th Century Ohio Maps: Map of the City of Cincinnati, 1838 Map of the Central Ohio Railroad and Connecting Lines, 1850 Map of the Ohio and Pennsylvania Railroad and Connecting Lines, 1850 Map of the Railroad Surveys between Hillsborough and Chillicothe, 1851 Railroad and Township Map of Ohio, 1851,1854 Hillsborough and Cincinnati Railroad extending from Jackson, OH to Parkersburg, VA, 1853 Colton's Railroad & Township Map of the State of Ohio, 1854 Cleveland and Toledo Railroad, 1856 Map of the Railroad Line between Loveland and Cincinnati, 1860. http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/1860_OH_Gaz_index.html ------------------------------------------------------------ Historic Atlas Series: 1868 Atlas of the State of Ohio The 1868 Atlas of the State of Ohio CD is a snapshot of mid nineteenth century Ohio a recommended resource for genealogists, historians and anyone undertaking research of this period in Ohio's history. Table of Contents includes: Counties, Cities, Agriculture, Canals, Climate Map, Climatology, Colleges, County Evolution, Land Grants of Ohio, Geological Map, Geology, History, Schools and Seminaries, Post Offices, Railways, Statistics and Surveys of Ohio. Multiple adjacent county maps are primarily useful for identifying 1868 transportation routes, railroads, canals, streams and rivers, cities, towns and villages, and early Ohio place names. The 25 city maps in the Atlas are much more detailed with many early government and industrial sites including: * schools, churches and cemeteries * streets, roads and railways * rivers, streams and canals * race tracks and fair grounds * post offices and government sites * industrial sites, furnaces and mills * hospitals and asylums http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/oh_map/oh_index.html ------------------------------------------------------------ The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images and is included free on each CD. His mother's maiden name was Ann Kilbourne, born March 27, 1906. She first marriage was to a man in Columbus, surely in the late 1920s. We even have a photo of her in her wedding dress for the event, but all we know is he was called "Ches." So we presume his first name was Chester or something similar. This marriage ended in divorce and she later married Sheldon Bradford. Does anyone know anything about this first marriage? 1. Re: [OHFRANKL] HELP .Katherine Elizabeth Lore (C.E.Lore) . ..looking for death records in Knox County 1890 - 1895
    2. Elizabeth, I wonder if you might be able to find anything in cemetery books or online cemetery records for Knox and Franklin Counties? Do you know what cemetery Katherine's husband is buried in (I assume Franklin Co.)? Or have you found her parents, siblings, or any other family members in a cemetery in Knox Co.? If you can find a tombstone or cemetery record where Katherine is buried, that may be the closest you will get to an actual death record. I assume you have checked the Franklin Co. Probate Court (in case they moved there before she died). Even though technically speaking there should be a record of her death in the county probate court for that time period (1880-1895), in reality they are hit and miss. I have been unable to find several from the 1890's, yet have found others as early as 1874. There was no statewide death registration in Ohio until late in 1908, so you won't find anything at the state level. Let me know if this helps, or if you need more information. Although I'm not familiar with Knox Co., many counties have compiled cemetery books or volumes of various kinds that are very helpful. Best of luck! I am looking for death records for a Katherine Elizabeth Lore (sometimes listed as C.E. Lore) nee Thomas / Smith , who died between 1890 - 1895 .. best I can determine. She was born 1858 in New York. She is in the 1880 Census in Liberty Township, Knox County , the 1890 Census burned, and her husband and sons show up in Columbus in the 1895-96 Columbus City Directory. I'm thinking it was after she died in Liberty Township, Knox County , her husband and sons moved to Columbus so I'm setting her death sometime between 1890 - 1895 in Knox County, as an educated (?) guess. Although I know there might be other possibilities. I have written several times over the years to Knox County as well as to the State records in Columbus searching for her death records , but each time , nothing had been found. I also checked in a book listing deaths in Knox County and did not find her. I'm at that brick wall . . . . . Any suggestions will be MOST appreciated.
