Jeffersonville Citizen - Thursday March 18, 1926 - Fayette County UNDERWOOD Joseph William Underwod, son of Lewis and Jane Underwood, was born in Clinton County, Ohio May 28, 1858. He was the youngest of the family of nine children, of whom three survive. Mrs. Sarah A. Horney of Jeffersonville, Ohio, Mrs. Acemith Ann Johnston, Rhea Okla. and Mr. Enos L. Underwood of May, Okla. The subject of the sketch was united in marriage with Miss Mattie Mills, October 26, 1879. To this union four children were born. Franklin E. the first born, died in infancy; Orlie G. of Greensburg Kas; William of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Mrs. Leo Wright who resides in the home. Mr. and Mrs. Wright have only recentally come into the home to manage the farm. The life companion, three children named above, and six grandchildren are left to mourn the departure of this good man. When quite young he united with the Blessings Chapel M.P. Church, during the pastorate of Rev. P.F. Johnson, but during the pastorate of Rev. S.S. Fleming he renewed his covenant with the Lord and remained a consistent member until the class was disbanded. He was clean in his living, honest in all his relations with his fellow men, and will be greatly missed from the circles of his friends. He had been in poor health for two years but not one time was he confined to his bed. Suddenly and quietely the messenger came Sunday morning, March 16, 1926. While sitting in his chair, he "slipped away" having attained the age of 67 years, 9months, and 21 days. The funeral was in charge of Morrow and Zimmerman and was held at the house two miles North West of Jeffersonville, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. A.E. Black conducted religious services. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. I have no connection with this family. I am just posting this obit I found.
