Does anyone know whether ALL the townships in Fayette County used the same number in the OHIO 1850 Census Index? I am compiling an exhaustive Table of Contents for the microfilmed reels & creating labels for the microfilm boxes from this data. I would like to indicate which twp uses which number (ie stamped or handwritten) as I've read that this can vary from twp to twp in the same county. Hi, I have a request. I've lost contact with Debbie Eskridge Otterstein. She and I have a lineage in common which I didn't know about prior to this week and I really need to get in touch with her. Since this lineage goes back to Delaware I thought that possibly she may still be in touch with one of its subscribers. Also, I'd like to correspond with anyone with ESKRIDGE ties to Ohio, via Delaware, namely one George ESKRIDGE and his wife Sabrine or Sabrina. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks a lot, Thomas W. This is a forwarded message. Please reply to "ALL" or the person/email listed below. ----- Original Message ----- From: <EUBANKS123@aol.com> Sent: Monday, June 19, 2000 8:22 AM I have read the inquiries about the orphanage in West Union, Adams County, OH named the Wilson Children’s home and was wondering if there might be any information in the records about my family. The following is a portion of a letter I received some time ago. According to the letter, 2 brothers and one sister were orphaned and “put out into homes”. Could it be that they were sent to the children’s home? I have not been able to verify any of the dates in this account but my gg-father, Frank Eubanks is listed in the 1880 and 1900 census in Adams County, OH and his wife and children match those listed below. According to the census, his parents were born in VA, but I do not have their names or any other information about them. I would appreciate any help in finding any other records of this family. Bob Eubanks Leesburg, FL The following is a portion of that letter: Walker Eubanks, b.Aug. 14, 1838 in Mason Co. KY, married Catherine Eliz. Rogers in 1874 in Glasgow, MO, died July 1, 1917 in Leavensworth, KS.He was in the 39th OH Infantry, Co. 'I,' from Adams Co. OH. He had a sister Sarah, brother Marion F. or 'Frank' Eubanks. Marion Franklin Eubanks who married a Lydia Paris, supposedly from Paris, KY, in Bourbon Co. Frank''s children were Geo. W., James, Oscar, Cyrus, Stephen, John, Sarah, Wm. H., Lizzie.(Mary E.), Edward and Walter........................ there were Walker , his brother and one sister, and that their mother and father died, and they were put out in homes, became separated and he never knew what became of them." He said that "3 boys and a girl (a sister) came down the Ohio River on a flatboat, one got lost. They were from Virginia. Their parents had died in Virginia. They were put out...but later all got together and came to the Ohio area."
Hello List, I've many relatives from Fayette County and the List has been somewhat slow so I thought I'd post some of my names and see if there is anyone out there who is working on the same folks. My great grandfather, Robert Smith Eyre, worked on the family history from approximately 1886 - 1911 and I am fortunate to have a box of over 300 letters from various "cousins"; some of the surnames include: Doster, Eyre, Hardy, Combs, Stout, Parrett, Crumley. ----- Original Message ----- From: <EUBANKS123@aol.com> Sent: Saturday, June 17, 2000 5:24 AM I have enjoyed the articles about migration between Kentucky and Ohio, in part because my gg-father Francis M. Eubanks married his first wife in Nicholas County, KY in 1860 and moved to Adams County, Ohio around 1864. I found a book in our local library about the early settlers of Ohio. Below is a portion of a history of Adams County, Ohio which explains how and why some families made the trip in the late 1790’s. Bob Eubanks Leesburg, FL Adams County (Ohio) lies on the Ohio River fifty miles east of Cincinnati and one hundred south of Columbus. It derives it’s name from John Adams, second President of the United States. It was formed July 10, 1797, by proclamation of Governor St. Clair being then one of four counties into which the North-west Territory was divided.....................The first settlement within the Virginia military tract, and the only one between the Scioto and Little Miami until after the treaty of Greenville, in 1795, was made in this county, at Manchester, by then Col. later Gen. Nathaniel Massie. McDonald, in his unpretending, but excellent little volume, says: Manchester Settled: Massie, in the winter of the year 1790, determined to make a settlement in it, that he might be in the midst of his surveying operations and secure his party from danger and exposure. In order to effect this, he gave general notice in Kentucky of his intention, and offered each of the first twenty-five families, as a donation, one in-lot and one out-lot, and one hundred acres of land, provided they would settle in a town he intended to lay off at his settlement. His proffered terms were soon closed in with, and upwards of thirty families joined him. After various consultations with his friends at the bottom on the Ohio River, opposite the lower of the Three Islands, was selected as the most eligible spot. Here he fixed his station and laid off into lots a town...............

I'm new to the list, although I have been in I'net family research for three years. I'm currently searching for clues on my Dawson family from Allegany County, MD. There is a connection from my Dawson family to a Fayette County family. On the 10th of February, 1797, Zachariah MAGRUDER married Ann Dawson. Their son, John W. MAGRUDER, was born 1803, probably in Allegany County, MD. John married Margaret PORTER in 1826. John and Margaret MAGRUDER lived for an unknown number of years in Fayette County. John MAGRUDER died 28 Apr 1882, Fayette County, Ohio, and is buried in the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery. My question: does anyone have access to the 1880 Fayette County census? I need to verify the birthplace of John's mother. Thank you for your assistance. Pat Pulasky
