Murray City was a huge coal mine boom town from 1873-1930. Many people from Hungary, Poland, Germany, England and Ireland mined coal in Murray City in 1900. I have compiled several books about Murray City and have lots and lots of pictures. The books have info Such as Murray City Cemetery Transcriptions, Salem Hollow Cemetery Transcriptions, Obituaries and Related Genealogies, Murray City Coal Mine Rent book, Descendants of Emily Allen Skinner Spurgeon, List of Soldiers of WWI, WWII, and much more historical info. I have copies of the Murray City Merchant's Directory 1907, Murray City 1900 Census, 1924, 1947, 1957 and 1960 Murray City yearbooks. Also did you know there is a video about Murray City? At the end of the video is some actual footage of the 1930's showing coal miners coming out of the mines, and children coming out of the schools, and also the Main street of town. Please e-mail me if any of this information is of interest to you! We are trying to start a historical society and restore the train depot there. 1. Brick Wall - GGGrandpa Buzick birth 1836 in Fayette Co. OH
    2. Luci J. Baker
    3. Hello fellow Fayette Co. Researchers --- We all have that brick wall -- mine is my GGGrandfather, Elias S. Buzick, born July 22, 1836 in Fayette Co. OH. The challenge is I don't know his parents names. What I do know is ... 1850 - Federal Census for Ft. Des Moines, IA lists Elias as 14 and in the home of Henry (35yr) and Mary (31 yr) Buzick. (Henry and Mary were married in 1839 in Vermilion Co., IL ... 3 yrs after Elias's birth.) There appear to be others in the home who also are not members of the Henry Buzick family, people who may be related in some way. 1855 - IA State Census has Elias working as 19 yrs old working as a Carpenter near 1859 - Elias married Elizabeth Macy Barnard November 17 in McLean Co., IL. 1860 - Federal Census for Woodford Co., IL Elias is living in the same household with Arthur Buzick and Arthur's wife Martha Ann (Barnard - sister of Elizabeth Macy Barnard, Elias's wife). 1862 - August 12 Elias enlisted in the Civil War -- Co. I, 94th Inf., IL. Mustered out Juyly 17, 1865; as Corp' 1861-73 Five children are born to Elias and Elizabeth. 1890 - Elizabeth dies 1891 - Elias marries Mrs. Hanna Bell Cook. 1894 - March 14 Elias dies in McLean Co., IL. His obituary listed that he was born 1836 in Fayette Co., OH. What I want to find out is WHO ARE ELIAS'S PARENTS! Does anyone on this list have suggestions for finding birth records from 1836 in Fayette Co., OH??? Thanks! Luci Baker Seattle, WA

    1. Chancery Court records
    2. Does anyone know where to find Chancery Court records for the period 1832-1842 that are for the Fayette and Pickaway Co. area? I found in Pickaway Co. Common Pleas records, March term 1843, where the case had been settled in the last term of Chancery court. Have not been able to find any Chancery court records before 1843 in Pickaway Co. or in the Columbus, Ohio State library for that area. Would there have been a regional Chancery court during this period that covered the Pickaway & Fayette area? Also, I plan to visit Fayette County in mid September for research and would like to know where would be the best place to go for early records(1810-1850)? Is there a regional depository for this area? Thanks for any help or suggestions you can provide. Karen

Please include me on your mailing list & send a current order form! I sent all my info to David Nutt before he published "our" branch of the Nutt family years ago. I don't have anything back in time before James' father, John Nutt. Is there a doubt about John Nutt's being in the Revolutionary War? I may have misread info in a previous message, but thought that was mentioned. Thanks for responding. Arlene (Hatfield) Dubuc

Oh Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Oh/Fayette?read=51 Surname: ------------------------- The major branch of the Nutt family that is identified with OH's Fayette Co (and before that with Loudon Co VA) is not one that I have personally researched other than in VA records. My book includes only one child of James & Rachel, and the material that I will include in my revision is largely from David Nutt and is not exhaustive as to descendants further than the names and some vital data of some of their g-grandchildren. My concern has benn primarily with the early generations and tying together the various branches deriving from those early generations. If this aspect interests you let me know (edalnutt@earthlink.net) and i will send you ordering details. The revision , which I expect to complete in a year or two, will be supplied to all who have obtained the original. If you would care to send me the data you have on any of James & Rachels descendants, beginning with their g-grandchildren, I would be grateful and would include it in the revision. Ed. Nutt
