Marg very kindly checked her Ohio marriage CD for a marriage in Hancock Co. for me. She did not find it. However, being suspicious of a wonderful CD with all the Ohio marriages, I checked RootWeb's "Books we own" and found a person who had Hancock Marriage books published by the DAR. I contacted her and she found the marriage. (Sorry Marg! It does not have all of Ohio marriages) We have been looking for a marriage for our Jonathan MASON and Ann Sophia GRIMES, probably abt. 1828, for more than 25 years. They were residing in Violet Twp., Fairfield Co., OH so I thought Licking Co. might be a posibility. Unfortunately Licking has had several courthouse fires. I looked at FHL film # 1320513, item # 17 - Licking Co., Ohio Marriages 1808-1875. It was not the original records but a typed extraction. While I had the film, there were other marriages that I decided to check for as well. I found the following note in the "T's": "From 1829-1839 no marriages recorded". I had not seen it in the other portions that I had looked through. Only last names starting with the letter "T"? That seemed strange. On closer examination, I discovered there was a gap in that time period in all the letters. Either the book for 1829-1839 was lost (fire?) or no marriages were recorded.
