    3. The following is taken from a pamphlet made available by the Vital Statistics Division of the Lancaster Public Health Center, 113 W. Whheling St., Lancaster, OH 43130: GENEALOGY - Genealogy has become a passion for many people who want to research their family history. There is an increase each year of persons asking to search the records. The law provides that records be available to the public during regular business hours, and that index files be compiled to assist people in their search. Due to the demand of genealogy work, vital statistics staff can not always provide records the day the request is made. Records can be mailed or picked up at a later date. *Genealogy research can be done Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. *Records are filed in chronological order, therefore complete date is needed. *Index books are provided in the vital statistics lobby. COST - Certified records - $8.00 Uncertified records - (which most genealogists need) 20 cents *uncertified records are not a legal document Reprinted with permission of the Lancaster Public Health Center NOTE: Please keep in mind that genealogy requests are not the only function of the Vital Statistics Division. Therefore, when writing for copies please try ot limit your request to 5 copies! Karen S. Smith, Corresponding Secretary The Fairfield Co. Chapter OGS http://www.fairfieldgenealogy.org
