My father's family spent most of the 1800's in Fairfield & Hocking county, and I am trying to get more of a feel of the area at that time, as well as information about my relatives. Q1: I have recently found lists of local histories that show at least three for Fairfield County and one (a history of the Hocking Valley) which includes Hocking County. Since these are mainly available on microfilm or microfiche -- which is tiring to read and too expensive to copy -- I wonder if anyone can suggest which I might start with. Since I haven't found any indexes available, I'll have to take pot-luck on my particular relatives (ANSEL, GARRISON, GRIM[M], HAMILTON, POLING, SHAW, SHEETS, SHOLL/SHULL). Since some histories are largely accounts of the comings and goings of mayors and mill-owners, and many of my family were farmers, I would appreciate any hints about the flavor of the various histories. I suspect other readers of the list, who have been unable so-far to visit the area, would also appreciate short "reviews" of histories people on the list have looked at.
