I often get questions about church record availability which I enjoy answering, but for those of you who are looking for church records in other areas keep this in mind. Small churches are usually in charges, classis or whatever name the denomination happens to give a church who shares a pastor with other churches. Therefore, even if the specific church that you are looking for has closed you need to check with the other churches in the charge etc to find where the records might be. This may meaning going across county lines to archives in areas you have never dreamed of to find these elusive records. It is important if possible to contact someone with knowledge of the area (county historian) you are looking for in order to find out the possible charge history of the church you are seeking. Some have noticed my library link to the local library is not working. I will check and see if I can get that working again, but often it is because the library computer network is down.
