The following is quoted from: _Putnam County Pioneer Association, Centennial History, 1873-1973_ written mostly by Audrey S(tauffer) Carroll: page 46: In 1880 John Carwfis bequeathed the township $25,000 "..to build a school of higher learning." The building erected in 1888 was named Crawfis College. This school was operated for twenty years as an academy boarding school, it became a first grade township high school. In 1940 the Crawfis School ws abandoned and ahigh school building was constructed in Gilboa. ... but it's more likely your grandmother attended the one in Fairfield County. Mary Burdick
