How would I find out about a veteran living in Fairfield County who served in the War of 1812? This man is William Shimp, died May 20, 1840, and is buried at Mt. Olive Cemetery. Cemetery Information notes him as serving in the War of 1812. Were there obituaries or cemetery records that might give his unit? Thank you for any help you may be able to offer.
