Author: lhanks1 Surnames: Boyer Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.fairfield/1420.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Like the many others who responded to you, I have nothing concrete to offer. I tried many different things (probably duplicated much of your efforts) and so far nothing. However, when I was looking at the Eli Boyers who were in family trees on Rootsweb's WorldConnect, I was struck by the Eli Boyer b. 1831 & d. 26 Oct 1856 which fits the time period your Eli seems to disappear. He is in 5 trees, 3 posted by the same person in different years (the most recent being 2008), another posted in 2008 but he indicates he copied the information from another tree so wouldn't have any idea of sources, and one other posted in 2003. No sources given except for the one who indicates the information was copied. None of them have a marriage for this Eli. His parents were from Muskingum Co., OH but by 1850 they were in Iowa and Eli was with them (birth place given as Ohio). I do know, from some of my research, of people who moved from Muskingum Co. to the Violet Twp., Fairfield Co. and Truro Twp., Franklin Co. area. Maybe this Eli came back to Ohio, maybe not, but if you can't find anything in Ohio this may give you another avenue for research. If you think Eli and Julia may have divorced, the following book might be useful to you: Franklin County, Ohio Divorces before 1870 ... abstracted by Donald M. Schlegel. Published Columbus, OH; Columbus History Service, 1983. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. But I just have this strange feeling he's right in front of our eyes and we're not seeing him. There are sooo many Boyers in the area, and many with common names such as "John". Maybe he went by a middle name of "Eli" to differenciate himself from all the John's. The "Sarah Leathers" in the 1860 census seems intriguing and I have a feeling she may be related somehow. Actually, when you look at the census Julia's oldest child is named Sarah and, who knows, she may even be named after Sarah Leathers. Since you said you can't find Julia in the 1850 census either, there's always the possibility she had been married previously to Eli and listed under a different surname. I may try that again. What is even more frustrating, is that a family researcher for the Clark family had heard Julia "left" Eli. I doubt it but stranger things have happened. -1870 census Julia is now a Clark living with Eli Clark in Licking County. Her children all moved to Licking with her. And though my 93 year old grandmother knew of the two girls (we have one photo) no one knows about Charles. I could not even find a mention of his birth though he was born after the girls. Author: shellyinoh Surnames: Boyer Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.fairfield/1420.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Where was Julia in the 1850 census? And where do Eli and Julia's children list their father as having been born on their later censuses? Ohio or PA? When you said that Eli Boyer was mentioned as a guard in the Madison township history, I looked at it and noticed that the "Violet Guards" was a military organization from about 1844-1846, which means Eli Boyer is probably on the 1850 somewhere in the vacinity. I recognized many of the other names in the Violet Guards and a lot were of Violet Twp. and Bloom Twp. of Fairfield county and Madison twp. of Franklin Co. As you probably have noticed, there were many Boyers in Fairfield county in the 1850 census. He might be one of those but listed with a different first name -- perhaps Eli being a middle name. I have many Boyer's of these areas in my database that's at http://www.foorgenealogy.com/gene.html - but no Eli. But maybe comparing the 1850 census Boyers to those in my database might at least help you eliminate some of the possibilities.
