I did respond to your message, but the information was a bit complicated. I decided that the way I was sending it was disorganized, but I pushed "send" before I had a chance to fix it. So I asked that it be deleted. I did start a second message in more orderly fashion, but I was interrupted in the middle of writing it, and when I turned back to my computer, this second message had disappeared. I couldn't find it. Since the message was lengthy and it was past my bedtime (!), I decided to reconstruct it the next day. And I forgot. I will try again soon. But I do have a manuscript, "Jurg Michael Schweinhard Family. The German Connection." This was compiled by Carol Foss Swinehart in 1998. In this collection, there is a copy of a baptismal record for Jacob's brother Andrew who was born on 29 Oct 1824 in Hopewell Twp. The mother, Christina, had the maiden name of Gruber. She was the daughter of J.G. Gruber. Jacob Swinehart and his wife Mary Ann (Kelly) are both buried in Little Sandusky Cemetery in Wyandot Co. My great-grandmother was Isabella Swinehart (1862-1934), daughter of George and Isabella (Spohn) Swinehart. Her husband was Jacob Henry Gordon. This is my connection to the Swinehart family since I am part of the Gordon family. Ruth Hastie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However, somehow, the reply you posted replying to my "Anspach, Guyton and Spillman possibilities" post was somehow deleted. Did you delete it? 2. Hello everyone, I am trying to locate my great grandfather and great-great grandfather.  My great great grandfather's name is Jmes Reat, originally from Scotland, moved to Maryland and then to Ohio where he died around 1810.  The birth date I have for him is February 28, 1768.  He had several children.  I do not know his wife's name as I cannot find a record of one.  The problems is I do not know which county.  He had a son named James Reat, born 1790 in Maryland and died in Illnois around 1855.   Any help is appreciated. 3. Gerri, I don't know if this will help you, but there is a Robert Reat on the 1830 census in Clear Creek, Fairfield Co., OH. He's 40-50 with two women in his HH the same age and one woman 70-80. Could he be a brother to your James? Could the elderly woman be their mother? James is in Madison, Fairfield, aged 30-40. On the 1800 census there is a James Rate in Dist. 1, Frederick Co., MD. There is a male -10, two 10-16, and one +45. Females: one 26-45 and two +45. This may or may not be your family member as I'm not sure how Reat is pronounced. Maryland has their land records online. Begin here: http://www.msa.md.gov/ In the box in the list at the left is MDLandRec. Click on that. You have to sign up to use these, but it's free!! I did a quick search for you in Frederick Co., MD because of the census listing above, and many families migrated from Frederick Co. to Ohio. This is what I found: WR 14 p571 In 1796 James Reat bought a 72 acre part of or adjoining "Resurvey of Strife Ended" from William McKay/Makay [It's spelled both ways in the same document.] WR 14 p572 1796 James Reat sold [or mortgaged?] part of the same parcel. His wife Jemima relinquished her dower rights. I didn't read this carefully enough to determine if he sold the entire 72 acres or only a portion of it. WR 41 p42 dated 14 Nov 1811 James Reat sold another parcel of land. His wife Jemima relinquished her dower rights. You'll want to read these yourself. You can also save the files to your computer and/or print them. If this is your James Reat, and if he owned and sold land in MD, he probably bought land in OH. I'd start looking in Fairfield county. You'll probably need to find a local person to search the land records for you in OH. I don't believe they have land records online. The last deed copies I got in Ohio cost $2.00 per page. I sure wish more states would follow Maryland's example! I hope this helps! Good luck on your search.
