    1. Fairfield Co. = Parent of Licking Co.?/Brooks/Lowe
    2. Hello. Our brick wall is an ancestress born 1795 in "Licking Co." according to two published family sources, however I just noticed that Licking was formed 1808 from Fairfield, and am now wondering if I should be pursuing in Fairfield instead. Would some records of this family still remain in Fairfield County. Name is Brooks, Sarah was born 1795 daughter of Joshua or Josia Brooks about whom we know nothing. Sarah's husband Nathaniel Lowe III although from Maryland lived in Licking, but by that time when they married it actually was Licking, not Fairfield. Any referalls, ideas, brainstorms appreciated. Thank you for your courtesy and cooperation in this regard. Sincerely, Robert Campbell of Long Beach, California, great-great-great-great-great-grandson of Joshua or Josiah Brooks, of Fairfield or Licking Counties, Ohio.

    3. I have a copy of Elisabeth Huber's will from Will book III page 98 dated 5 Dec 1837 written in German. Elisabeth lived in Pleasant Township Fairfield COunty, OHio and had the following children: Sons Johannes land in Putnam Co, OH, Christian, Jacob; daughters Magdalena, Elisabeth, Susanna, deceased daughter Catharina; executor Georg Schmether; signed Elisabeth Huber, wtn Daniel Guenther, Joseph Hiestand, Thomas B Peck Sounds like your Johannes except that in 1837 your John would only have been 15 years old and a minor. Perhaps the John listed in the will is his father. If you would like a copy of the will which is in German - just send your snail mail address to me. I do not have time to do a word for word translation or know anyone who can. 3. The following newspaper article might interest many Fairfield County researchers as it contains many surnames. I do not know what paper it is from. 8th Annual Emfield/Miller/Sands Family Reunion Held The 8th annual reunion of the Emfield-Sands families was held at the home of Solomon Emfield, near Basil on September 1, 1909. 3. To all those that need assistance in the Fairfield county and surrounding area. Another list is getting a little carried away about helping and not helping all because of certain view on sources. At this time I offer my assistance, again, to any who I might be able to help with simple lookups in our county library, for Fairfield and surrounding counties. I will not do any in-depth research, there are wonderful people here that can be hired to do that. I will do simple look-ups, and will try to send you copies of what I find so that you have the "original" source and don't need to depend on my transcription. (please send your snail mail address) I will be doing this for the remainder of February, in-between reading films I have ordered for myself and March when I hope to begin classes at the University here at Lancaster. Please make your requests clear and concise, with as many names and dates as you can to make the search easier and less time consuming. I do not charge for this. Anything you want to send to me later to compensate is entirely up to you. If you choose to do the same for someone else, that is also up to you. I enjoy helping others. Please use the subject line above so that I do not accidently delete your query. 3. Am searching for William REYNOLDS (b. 20 Jan-1776 d. 17-Mar-1874) who married Mary ______ (b. 10-Dec-1791 d. 9-May-1874). They were living in Fairfield Co., OH, in the early 1800's. Their daughters, Nancy and Margaret, married DUNIFAN brothers, John and Zachariah. John married Nancy on the 14-Sep-1837 in Fairfield Co., OH. I have been unable to determine William's and Mary's places of birth. Census records place William in DE, MD, PA, and "?" at the time of his birth and they place Mary in DE, MD, OH, and NY. Needless to say, I have no idea where to begin. No two census records records the same place of birth. Tradition says that William and Mary were both born in Ireland but I have no documentation that says this. They had 4 children that I know of: Nancy m. John DUNIFAN Margaret m. Zachariah DUNIFAN James Mary m. _________ RAMSBY I would be interested in talking to anyone who may know of any of these people and am willing to share information. 3. Responding to email from: p-dclary@sota-oh.com Thank you for responding to my FAIRFIELD-L posting. It seems ... absolutely certain that your information on Richard Poling's descendents will help me sort out "who's who" among the Fairfield/Hocking/Perry county Polings. The area seems to have descendents of bros Samuel, Richard, and Martin B [my folks] at least. It sounds like by FAR the best way to make sense of the Ohio Polings is to depend on those who are still in the area. It looks like there are a couple of people in Phillipi, WV who have the WV Polings by heart, so I'm finally pretty well convinced that I will not only get that part of my family correct, but probably find out enough to fill out the "family history" from that era as well. Very reassuring - for what seemed for a time to be hopeless. I'm very happy to know about the Mathias-Poling reunion. I know I won't be able to visit the area then [are distant-distant cousins invited?], but I have been thinking of visiting Bremen/Logan in the next year or so, and it would seem ideal to come during a reunion. Thanks again -- Bert Shaw

    3. Actually, even if you use the credit card option, the National Archives will only automatically send the "$10 standard package." If the file is much larger, they will send you a note advising you of the number of pages and the cost. You then have the option of ordering the remaining pages. I've had two ancestors that had very large files, and NARA followed this procedure both times. This is standard procedure according to Claire Prechtel-Kluskens, archivist at NARA. 3. IF you send you credit card number it goes a lot faster :) 6 months usually. Otherwise they have to write you back and you them etc. Maybe they have changed their policy since you last had dealings with them. 3. If one requests just pension papers, the bill seems to still be $10.00. However if you request ALL of the file (or both selected and non-selected records) the bill may be higher. You can write on your form, "please send the selected and advise me the cost of the non-selected records" and they will send you a note telling you what it will cost for the rest of the records. The non-selected may or may not be of genealogical interest. However, in the ones I sent for I received some very enlightening medical information, as well as information on other family members. If this does not seem clear to you, it is like the Revolutionary War Pension records that you can borrow on interlibrary loan that show selected and non-selected. If you send to the National Archives for those records you receive the selected only. AGLL loans the Revolutionary War Pension records, so there is no need to bother the National Archives to get those, you can look at them yourself and also everyone else by that surname that is on the reel of microfilm...thus perhaps finding a sibling or cousins information. And save a "bunch of money." gayle1@kansas.net

Hohn born Nov. 7, 1866 Ella M. Hohn born Oct. 29, 1868 John L. Hohn born July 12, 1890 Ruth G. Hohn born Nov. 25, 1891 Wm. H. Hohn born April 16, 1893 Lewis K. Hohn born Jan 21, 1896 Russel T. Hohn born March 18, 1898 Gilbert R. Hohn born Jan 18, 1900 Elisabeth Hohn born October 28, 1901 If these are your ancestors, I will be glad to give the Bible to you. Good luck... Very trusting of them :) That is interesting Ray--- hmmm. Well I have the NATF Form 80 before me that I just obtained last week from Nat'l Archives and there is a place on there that they will return to you with a box where they check "Yes--We located the file you requested. We have made copies from the file for you. The cost for these copies is $10. Make your check or money order payable, etc....... Let me ask you this Ray. Did they send you a bill first and you then sent the money and they in return sent the copies? Because that is the way they work. In other words you knew before you got the 295 pages (that must have been neat) what the cost was. Correct? Anyway it has been a few years since I sent for my G-G-Grandfather's. But records. Unless you did the credit card option of course, then they charge your account and mail the copies. Was the info worth it to you? Just curious? I had a lot of interesting stuff in my G-Grandfather's pension file. The Military file wasn't as interesting. Thank you for your note Ray. Darleen Berens Raymond Barnett Howard
