    1. Re: Epidemics throughout history
    2. Amy Johnson Crow
    3. Here's two Fairfield Co epidemics listed in Graham's 1883 "History of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio" -- Lancaster, 1823 -- typhoid (described as affecting everyone in the village of Lancaster except for Frederick Foster and Christian Weaver). East Lancaster, August 1850 -- Cholera. Originated in Columbus and spread by a traveller from there. Thrity people died in two weeks. I didn't see any mention of Perry Co epidemics, but will post them if I do. Hope this helps :-) Amy ---------- > From: Carol Swinehart <cshart@greenapple.com> > To: OHFAIRFI-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Epidemics throughout history > Date: Sunday, February 22, 1998 6:08 PM > > Originally from: > > >Donna Ristenbatt > > >der@redrose.net > > >http://www.ristenbatt.com/genealogy > > >To: Dutch-Colonies@rootsweb.com > > >Date: Sun, 22 Feb 1998 16:25:04 -500 > > >Subject: Possible Reasons for Disappearing Ancestors > > > > > > > > >> "In case you ever wondered why a large number of your ancestors disappeared > > >> during a certain period in history, this might help. Obituary in the Frankfort KS Weekly Review 14 November 1902 showed the following: Mary E. PADEN born 8 May 1832 (? I could not read this date after I got home with my transcription, so 1832 is questionable) Fairfield Co OH married 3 April 1851 Jesse SMITH died 3 November 1902 Marshall County KS. She had been a resident of Kansas for the last fifteen years. Survivors included daughters Annie BRUNER and Alice MESSERLY of Basil OH, Addie LANE and Lois RADEBAUGH of Frankfort KS and David W. 3. Gary, The Fairfield County Chapter of OGS is coming out with two new books of newspaper abstracts (1826-1884) - they were being run off yesterday. I am not sure how many years are in each book. You may want to watch their webpage for details as soon as they are produced. They contain abstracts of the Lancaster (Ohio) Gazette Newspaper - of all genealogical related information. The information is quite detailed and well organized. Abstracted by Jean Collier a volunteer who has spent hundreds of hours on this project and continues to abstract later newspapers.. Dorothy Mercy is also a member of this list and she has a book out of abstracts of the early Ohio Eagle Newspaper. I don't know her e-mail address right at the moment, but perhaps if she is reading this she can contact you. At 02:26 PM 02/17/98 -0800, Gary Chantry wrote: >Hi! New to this.
