    3. Responding to my posting on SHULL and the "Scholl/Sholl/Shull Genealogy" Darleen_Berens wrote [off-list] >Hi Bert, Is there anything in the book you have that touches on this >family? > 1 - Johan Martin SCHOLL - 5283 > Born - Abt 1825 > sp- Louisa WAHL - 5284 (1829) > Born - Abt 1823 > [followed by a list of their descendents] Hi Darleen - I've been off checking relatives in Kansas & Washington of late, only recently tried to focus on some of the Hocking/Fairfield Co folks. "touches on?" - not really, but this might be helpful, anyway. According to the book, Solomon Scholl/Shull was a 3rd generation American, born in Bucks county Penn in 1782, moved to Fairfield Co, OH in the early 1800's, then to Franklin Co, where he died (in Gahanna), in 1879. His 1st wife, Catherine (Huber) Shull died in Fairfield Co, prob in the early 1820's. A daughter, Louisa Shull, b. Nov 7, 1825 in Fairfield Co, married a Samuel Ridenour (from Franklin Co) in 1850 - they lived in Licking Co for a time, then moved west to Iowa, where she died in 1889. So...in addition to YOUR Louisa Scholl, there should have been a Louisa Shull knocking around the county in the 1820's-40's. Not directly helpful, but probably worth knowing. Hope you're well - and didn't get washed out by this winter's rains. Bert Shaw

Re: SHULL, and HAMILTON First: I have Fairfield/Hocking co connections w Shull/Hamilton I've been exploring with only mild success. my ggfather Baxter M SHAW m Asenath GRIMM, d/o Noah GRIMM & Nancy HAMILTON his brother Joseph Newton SHAW m Elizabeth HAMILTON, d/o David HAMILTON & Mary LECRONE his sister Elizabeth Ann SHAW m Samuel SHULL b Ohio c1844 - I have names of their 7 Scholl children including Simeon Scholl, who married his cousin Vinnie Shaw (All these Shull & Hamilton's were born or lived much of their lives in Fairfield County, Ohio) Do you know anything about any of these? [I'm particularly interested in Samuel Shull's background, and where Simeon & Vinnie ended up (they had moved back to Columbus, Ohio from Colorado, by 1939] Second: For the next week I'll have a copy of John William Scholl's large 1930 "Scholl, Sholl, Shull Genealogy" the colonial branches. (It's on ILL, so I have to get it back promptly.) It's 800+ pages, indexed, and seems both extensive and in the branches he found of particular interest, rather well researched. Heavy focus on the family in Pennsylvania, but follows Solomon Shull's descendents into Fairfield & then Franklin county (he notes that it seems only some Ohio Scholl branches picked up the Shull spelling, though they weren't particularly consistent about it.) If you have any particular names you'd like me to check, I'd be happy to [though don't expect speed...I'll be out of town for the next couple of days] Bert Shaw, Portland OR

    1. Live in Iowa; Will swap lookups
    2. Paul Rabe
    3. In Fairfield County; I'm researching the family lines of Rabe, McAnespie, and Shull. My tree has bumped into Mock, Ochs, Pairan, Steiner, Falluter, Whiley/Wiley, and Hamilton. I live five blocks from Iowa State Univ library; I work two miles from the Iowa Historical Society Museum (walk-in census microfilm for all years for all Iowa counties); I get to Iowa City (and its university) regularly. As you might guess, looking up information in Lancaster is not easy for me. I will gladly swap lookups and copying in Iowa for lookups and copying in Lancaster. Just send me your SPECIFIC requests; I'll offer what I consider an equitable trade; and you decide if you want to make the swap. No money will change hands. And even though I've asked this on over ten other bulletin boards without even one response, I'll ask here as well: Can anyone tell me what happened to my gr-gr-grandfather, Henry Edward Rabe, (born 1881 July 25, child of Charles Rabe and Emma Shull) after disappearing from Lancaster before the 1910 census? He married Teresa McAnespie around 1901 January, fathered four children, and then seems to vanish. Teresa was living with all four children at her parents' home but not listed as a widow in the 1910 census. Charles' 1927 obituary places Henry in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; but that (it turns out) was Henry's first cousin Harry, born in Lancaster the day before Henry(!). By 1920 Teresa was in Akron, married to Manny Steinhauser of West Virginia. My Henry is not listed in either the Ohio or the Social Security Death Indices; or any post 1904 Lancaster directories.

    3. I have a very good and clear class photo of the Hocking Township's Pleasant Valley School, probably taken between 1906 and 1908. I also have access to a xerox machine which makes pretty good copies of photos. If anyone would like a copy, send me a stamped, self-addressed envelope. I hope some of you can find an ancestor in this group and that seeing it gives you as much pleasure as it has given me. To look into these faces of the past is fascinating, and kind of sad as well. My grandmother is probably the only one of all these people left living. She will be 100 this coming July. The teacher is Ms. Esther Shine. Lucinda's parents were both deceased by the time she was 6 years old (1838). She was born is Ashtabula Co in 1832 and married George NIGH in Wyandot Co. in 1850. Who were these friends? I figure they had to be close friends of her parents (Horatio and ????? CUSHMAN). I hope to find the name of her mother and where her parents are buried.
