I noticed in the last couple of days that there are new mail lists for the surnames LAMB and KEMMERER both of which are Fairfield County names. You may subscribe to this list in mail mode (individual messages) by sending a message to LAMB-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else. If you prefer digest mode (several messages in one mailing), you should send the command instead to LAMB-D-request@rootsweb.com. Do the same to subscribe to the KEMMERER list, only send it to KEMMERER-L-request@rootsweb.com or KEMMERER-D-request@rootsweb.com to start receiving digests. I have recently found the name of Thomas Crozier in the 1880 Fairfield County Census, Rush. Twp. I had previously been centering my research to Belmont and Monroe Counties. Thomas was b. 1836 in Belmont County, to Ralph and Elizabeth Crozier. Anyone on this list researching that name? Martha Crozier
Follow up on my Email search for the writer of the 'mystery letter' by John Dye, written 1941, found among genealogy papers of my husband's Aunt Georgiana - died 30 years ago. : One of the 23 recipients of my email request identified the letter writer as a relative. He gave me two phone numbers of older family members whom he thought could be more specific. The first number was an elderly aunt who gave some interesting background stories but no dates, nothing specifically helpful on my search. The second number was very helpful, identified the gentleman, told me he was deceased, and gave me yet another number of a nephew - not with the Dye name - who was currently into genealogy. The nephew is a gold mine of information. He directed me to the State Historical Library, Columbus, OH where my mystery writer's files are on microfilm. He also sent me a GEDCOM with 411 names and of these 411 only 5 were people already in my database. This was a large unknown (to me) branch of the family. I am sure this will lead into other avenues. Total elapsed time from finding the mystery letter to making a great connection and assimilating the new people carefully into my database = 15 days. Better than the old snail mail days. Best of luck to others who try the same approach. Jayne

I don't remember it. But there should still be some Thimmes there now. Mr. Richard Thimmes was a teacher at Lancaster High School in 1966, the year I graduated. He was a Vocational Auto-Mechanic. He'd be pretty old now. I also went to school with Stephanie Timmes. She was the Sweetheart Queen that year, a very lovey young woman. I don't know what became of her. In the sophomore class there was a Jon Timmes. In the junior class there were David, Pam, Rod, Timmes. In the senior class there was Cynthia Ann Thimmes (she might have become a teacher or nurse), and Stephanie as I mentioned before. Lancaster High School has an online site but I don't have the http right now. Judith Jasper

I sent the same email to everyone in Ohio with the last name DYE. 13 were undelivered. The other 23 were good addresses and 6 have responded. 5 with +ACI-Sorry, can't help+ACI- and one possible lead. Cheaper than mailing a letter to the 86 DYE names in the Columbus phone book. And the response from Dayton would have been missed that way perhaps. Does anyone have any information on the surname CUSHMAN in Fairfield Co.? Mt g-g-grandfather's sister, Lucinda CUSHMAN was in Fairfield Co. from about 1838 (age 6) to about 1850 (age 18). She married in Wyandot Co. in 1850. A Wyandot Co. History write-up on her husband, George NIGH, states that Lucinda came from Fairfield Co. to Wyandot Co. with friends. Lucinda was orphaned in 1838 in Ashtabula Co.. I believe she was either taken in by friends of the family or another family member. There was a LaFayette CUSHMAN in Fairfield in 1850 (Census Record). He may have been an older brother or cousin of Lucinda. I hope to find some information on Lucinda's parents, and hence info on my g-g-grandfather (Amariah Fenton CUSHMAN). Their father was Horatio CUSHMAN of Willington, CT, a direct descendant of Thomas CUSHMAN and Mary ALLERTON of Plymouth Colony, MA. Thank you. Gene Majors Placentia, CA gnkm@fea.net
We have found a letter written to Mrs.. Susan Rogers Morton in Haymarket, Virginia, - dated Feb 2, 1941 - from John Dye of 1388 E. Mound St. Columbus, OH. This is not the current John Dye of Lancaster. The letter is concerned with genealogy and quotes enough of the Dye history that this has to be a family member. The other surnames discussed in the letter are Welles ("we know Lydis Welles married Jessie B. Carter" and one of their daughters married John Hixon and moved to Meigs Co. OH from Fairfax Co. Va. and she was known to be related to .. ") the writers grandfather. Mary Bradfield was the writer's gggrandmother. Selden, Carter, Peyton, Sanford, Washington, and Ball are all named as related surnames. This man was into genealogy, may have continued his study, may be alive still or have local descendents in possession of his work, and is unknown to us. None of these Surnames are known to be in the Dye family material which we have. Nevertheless the Dye material he discusses is in our family. Any suggestions how to continue with this lead-in? Is there a Franklin Co. list I could submit this to? Do the other surnames mentioned tie in somehow? There are 86 listings in the Columbus phone book under Dye but we are not aware of any connection. Now I feel there may be a gold mine of new family connections waiting to be discovered. Help please. Jayne

I will once again have a heart ablation procedure done this week in Columbus and would hope that as usual you are all polite to each other and helpful. If you notice a little extra bounced mail just delete it and I will take care of it when I get out of the hospital. Any questions ask Patsy at pkishler@greenapple.com or ksmith@greenapple.com in my absence. Remember the OGS convention is in Columbus this weekend - if you have time stop by.
