    1. [OHFAIRFI-L] Lancaster Surnames
    2. Minden B. Shadle
    3. Seeking information on STROHL and KELLER/FRAZIER surnames of Lancaster, OH. Children of Abraham Strohl and Sarah J. Van Curen: Emma b. ca. 1867 Clara b. ca. 1869 (May also be called Matilda) Maggie b. 1873 Andrew b. 1873 (twin of Maggie) Alma b. ca. 1876 Olie B. ca. 1876 William b. Feb. 1880 Andrew STROHL married Robertha "Blanche" Surname either KELLER or FRAZIER. In early documents Blanche lists her surname as Frazier latter she lists it as Keller. When she died in 1949 (of course without a death certificate) her obit stated she had a brother Walter Keller who resided in Columbus. Blanche has really been that proverbial "brick wall" for me. My grandmother told me that some of Blanche's siblings were illegitimate (perhaps even Blanche herself?). I think her step-father's surname was perhaps Keller and she took the surname latter as her own out of respect. Andrew and Blanche were married about 1896, most likely in Fairfield Co. Children of Andrew and Blanche: Jesse Dallas Strohl b. Nov. 13, 1896 m. Ruth Bashaw Besse Alice Strohl b. Nov. 13, 1896 died at the age of 2 Hettie b. October 1897 m. Robert Valentine Joseph b. January 1899 died before 1910 Ida Margaret b. Oct. 10, 1903 m 1st John Frank 2nd Mr. Ursell Theodore d. young Charles m. Eleanor Frank Sarah b. 1908 m. William Gorr The Andrew Strohl family moved to Sylvania, Ohio between 1910-1920. Would love to know what happened to Andrew's siblings. Hope to hear from anyone researching these lines! 1. [OHFAIRFI-L] BENJAMIN & SARAH RUTTER 1816
    2. Charles Rutter
    3. Researchers, My first ancestor I have been able to document is Benjamin Rutter. Benjamin and Sarah migrated to Newton Twp., Muskingum County, Ohio. In 1816 they purchased 160 acres there in Section 36. In 1836 Benjamin and Sarah sold the majority of this farm to their children for $500.00 They had 14 children. One of them, my Great Grandfather Isaac Rutter sold his portion of the Muskingum County Rutter family farm to his brother James on June 10, 1844 and in 1850 he is in Green Twp., Hocking County, Ohio. In 1851 Isaac purchased land there, but had relocated to Marion Twp., Hocking County, by 1860. The paper trail from 1816 is relative good to the present. However, I do not know where he came from. The 1860 census shows he gave his birth place as Maryland. Charles Rutter crutter@voyager.net January 5, 1999 8:03 pm

I got mine at a Barnes & Noble book store here, but have also seen them at other book stores. Mine cost $14.95 a few years back but if they have put out a new edition it's probably gone up. -- Karl Seitz Birmingham, Ala.

    1. [OHFAIRFI-L] Nattie HARTER & Dr. Virgil RYAN
    2. Linda & Oliver
    3. Dorothy just shared the following tidbit with me: Jan. 2 1889 - Nattie Harter of Greenfield and Dr. Virgil Ryan of Texas were married December 28th in Texas (Genealogical abstracts from the Lancaster (Ohio) Gazaette- Vol. III - 1885-1890 p. 52) Does anyone have any additional info on either Nattie or the doctor? I believe Nattie was the widow of Edson Harter who passed away 12 january 1885. (If someone has access to the Lancaster Gazette for the Jan 1885 time period - I would love to know if it contains an obit for Edson). I don't know Nattie's maiden name. Also - what is Nattie a nickname for - Natalie? Edson and Nattie had a son Claude - which would be one of the few male HARTERs. I would love to find out what happened to Claude. Sounds like he and his mother moved to Texas. But, where in Texas! Thanks for any ideas or help!! Linda Libician

    1. [OHFAIRFI-L] 1820 Census index
    2. Amy Johnson Crow
    3. I discovered an error in the 1820 Federal Census Index on CD-ROM. I had been looking for David Wright in Bloom Township and found that Bloom Township is not listed. Instead, it is included in Rushcreek Township (or "Rush," as they refer to it on the disc). On the census schedule itself, Bloom Township clearly begins on page 107a and continues to the end of Fairfield County. Hope this helps someone who is confused by not finding a family where they thought they should be. Amy Johnson Crow, CG http://www.amyjohnsoncrow.com

    1. [OHFAIRFI-L] Susan Hines buried in Fairfield County?
    2. Paul Rabe
    3. A genealogy book records that my ancestor, Susan Catherine Wahl Shull (born 1812) married John Hines after her first husband (Frederick Shull) died in 1854. It also states Susan died and was buried in Lancaster, but gives no record of where or when. She is not listed in the listing of Berne Twp Cemeteries, and the John Hines listed there obviously is not him. Anybody know a Susan Hines buried next to John Hines, who can give me her date of death or at least the cemetery name?
